I wonder if you can hax0r / spoof / redirect this and be able to stream whatever random content you wanted on to disney's speakers. Hmmmmm.... ____________________ Remember, not all/. users hate Windows or think Microsoft is out to get them!
BOO to the free stuff at comdex this year. The best part of any conference is the gimmes, right?
American Express gave you a lousy cup or cd wallet if you signed up for their ultra-high-rate Blue card.
Sun gave you a year-old tshirt (happy 5th anniversary to java or some crap copyright 2000)
One vendor, who's product I can't even remember gave you a light up bouncy ball if you let him swipe your card to add you to his spam list.
Everyone else was only giving away garbage (cd business cards, flyers, product brochures, etc)... and a few were giving away demo versions of their software.
Speaking of demos... they kids who's product rival'd VMware said that if you own a copy of VMware (retail) they will give you a FREE FULL VERSION of their software if you COPY YOUR VMWARE cd and mail it to them. Sounds kinda weird huh?
Overall spring comdex was CRAPPY for loot this year. The one in vegas always offers better loot, I'll post again after that one. ____________________ Remember, not all/. users hate Windows or think Microsoft is out to get them!
I'm very impressed with the XP beta. It's more stable than the windows 2000 beta was at this point, and it has a couple neat new features.
Look for driver rollback if you install a bunk driver. Also, try compatibility mode to allow you to run programs that wouldn't work on windows 2000... I was unable to get ANYTHING to crash! Very impressive for a beta release.
The only downside is that you need a computer with alot of power.

If Linux is such a great product, and open source is the business methodology of the future... how come it's a breakthrough for the biggest of the Linux distros (PR-wise) to break even?
How much profit did Debian make last year?
How can any software development firm make profit when they program for free, and have no concept of intellectual property?
NOTE: These are actual questions and concerns, don't take them as stabs at your OS. ____________________ Remember, not all/. users hate Windows or think Microsoft is out to get them!

Outlook 2000 with any service pack and Outlook XP do not run any.vbs scripts automatically. Also, attached executable, batch, and script files can't even be viewed without reconfiguring security settings.
If you're not logged into your NT / 2000 machine with admin rights, you can't touch most of the sytem and registry, and no windows program can elevate it's privledges above that of the user running the program.
Granted, running a virus on a windows 9x / ME machine will destroy the whole system, but 9x/ME is designed for home users who don't care about security or networking.

It brings me great pleasure to see nasty virii like this attacking Linux in particular. I'll have to remember this next time my MS-hater friends tell me how the newest email Trojan (that you have to click on, ignore the warning, and execute) for Outlook prooves that Windows is soo shitty compared to linux. No OS is impervious to worms, virii, trojans, etc.... Quit using it as a reason to "make the switch to linux" in your anti-microsoft banter; you're not fooling anyone. ____________________ Remember, not all/. users hate Windows or think Microsoft is out to get them!
Posting anything negative about linux on a HEAVILY pro-linux , anti-everything-else website is a very brave move.
Again, read the posts from readers to follow up this story and you get the same "Linux is really great because we say so and we refuse to look at your reasoning or proof otherwise". It's sad really.
OS X does have it's problems, but it brought *nix to the desktop before either KDE or GNOME could.
I'm still struggling to see the benefits of using *nix over windows on a desktop anyhow. I'm still trying to picture my secretary on a linux machine, asking me for help. ____________________ Remember, not all/. users hate Windows or think Microsoft is out to get them!
I read slashdot. I don't use linux. Not EVERYONE who reads slashdot uses linux. If you want I can send you some screenshots the day it hits retail shelves of me playing it on my windows 2000 machine though.
"...even toy GUI shells like Windows now support long file names."
NT4 and windows 2000 both support long file name. What use is calling it a "toy GUI shell"? Give me half the time that you spend configuring your freshly-installed linux machine, and my freshly-installed windows 2000 machine will be every bit as stable and secure... plus it can run::GASP:: applications commonly used by businesses! Damned fortune 1000 companies... why do they mostly use toy GUI Shells instead of Real OS's? (HINT: Picture troubleshooting a linux machine with a secretary who barely can use Word on it)
OH OH OH!!
Microsoft's file manager will browse the web and ftp! We can clone that! We already cloned all the other microsoft applications, why not explorer too?
Sometimes I think the only thing that keeps linux afloat is a deep-seated hatred of Microsoft. It's just a software company out to make money... they're not "big brother" or "the software mafia" or anything out to get you.
