    Maybe this is a good patent, but we can surely debate on this one. I mean that it's not nearly as broad as the statement makes it out to be. Cisco's main claim to innovation here is the dynamic access lists that affect routing of multicast traffic based on individual customers' subscriptions. That's pretty broad, but it's nowhere near a blanket patent on triple-play in general. To the extent that anyone has to worry about the patent, it's not Comcast or AT&T. It would be Nortel and Extreme and other network equipment vendors who are probably already looking at offering the same capabilities in future products.

    Cisco is not claiming a patent on the mere idea of triple play services. The patent covers a specific implementation ("method") of offering triple play services, which is an implementation that nobody is using as yet (probably because the Cisco hardware hasn't been released yet).

    Google is not the first to unveil a code search service. Previously, Famous book publisher O'Reilly launched a beta of its Code Search service last month that allows users to search a combined 2.6 million lines of code published in its books.

    Core thing is, Yahoo! and Google, through its Summer of Code are now wooing developers? Probably for the same reasons that Microsoft and other software companies have been doing to developers for decades: to find prospective employees and build a qualified labor pool. To drive adoption of their platform at companies by influencing their IT staff; to encourage development of third party applications based on their platform and services. Releasing this API is maybe just an Eyewash..

    Thinking about of multicore processors. Its performance is the first thing to ponder about...Imagine how it will ease our lives...while one processor core is updating the terminal display, another processor core could be tasked with processing the user input. As servers they can handle better backend processing. For example where there are transactions arriving from the various Point-Of-Sale terminals. By taking advantage of multi-core processor, any one server could handle a greater number of transactions in the desired response time. Its Gonna be real Fast and efficient..:)

No one loves security, not even who have this as thier job... but most people---managers, system administrators and users alike at some point of time in thier careers feel that they'd better learn it, or at least try to understand it... some who learn.. they also learn to teach..

    On the DRM tool in Windows Media software there's virtually no way to make it fully hack-proof. Any protection that's just software can always be broken by other software. Some attacker was bound to be able to do something like this. This won't be the last time Microsoft has to contend with this type of problem. Or maybe Microsoft put out this code that would be cracked quickly so they could the world at how fast they are at beating back the crackers? Good way to show the entertainment industry how much they care about protecting the industry.

    Microsoft is after FairUse4WM, a lone programmer who calls himself Viodentia. FairUse4WMV was first released by Viodentia on the Internet on August 19. Engadget first broke the story on August 25th. Microsoft released its first fix on August 28, but that was thwarted three days later by the release of an updated version of FairUse4WM. As of this posting, no new Microsoft fix has been released. In the mean time broadcaster BSkyB has stopped its broadband movie download service until Microsoft secures its DRM system. Other content download services such as Movielink, RealNetworks and MTVs Urge service use Microsoft's PlayforSure technology and are equally vulnerable!!!

    the RIAA is going after only flagrant copyright violators. But ultimately, for similar situations thousands of lawsuits could be filed. Also RIAA is offering amnesty from lawsuits to P2P users who voluntarily identify themselves and pledge not to illegally distribute files again...

    Cool imagination :d I love to use google earth but the zoom has always felt awkward and I would hope Google Earth gets it right. Google's flexibility is impressive and they will prove it as always!! Time tavel is too much to ask for :P and the urban city development in such model must be helpful for people who are real town planners.. for others it is like playing a computer game.

    Yea, the delisting notice was expected after Dell said earlier this month that it was unable to file its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended Aug. 4 due to questions raised in an accounting investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

    It is the market value of a piece of an intellectual product a reasonable indicator of a person's contribution to the same...Intellectual property is built around a fundamental tension as the ideas are public but creators want private returns. To overcome this, a distinction developed between ideas and their expression. Ideas could not be copyrighted but their maybe thier expression could be.

    Maybe it is a problem!! Maybe there does exist a problem, they must have found some significant security flaws like voters could have trivially cast multiple ballots with no built-in traceability, administrative functions can be performed by regular voters,and the threats posed by insiders such as poll workers, software developers, and janitors is even greater. That would be totoaly based on thier development environment, I believe that an appropriate level of programming discipline needs to be laid out.. before we can get too sure about the so called Acurate Technology Driven Ballot boxes.

    Basically it's a (wireless!) from your Mac to your TV, so you can watch your iTunes store movies on your big plasma TV instead of your iPod. What excites me is the ability of being able to watch a movie without having to book for a blockbuster!!! Ofsource it can not be compared to TV and It doesn't record.

    Measures needed for the courts to find patents invalid based on the preponderance of the evidence, without having to find that clear and convincing evidence compels that result. The current standard of "clear and convincing evidence" undermines courts' ability to weed out questionable patents since certain PTO procedures and rules tend to favor the issuance of patents. Believing that you have the most Innovative idea, and you would get a unique patent is not enough. You need to prepare for an extensive research and competition with Patent Law and Policies.

    The proliferation of US software patent squabbles, and is swallowing much of the time, money and risk-taking of America's technology firms. Patent law was meant to enable innovation, not discourage it. Reforming the patent system will help everyone get the picture. Aditi Tuteja
