We are already trying to port low level windowing code were possible from WINE. Efforts are already underway to make sharing code for higher level DLLs easy. DirectX will be another area to cooperate.
I just want to point out that ReactOS is NOT just aiming for application compatibility (as is suggested by the submitter). We're also looking to support NT/2K/XP drivers and we're modelling the entire kernel and subsystems around the way NT works. Sure we'll do things differently where there won't be a huge compromise in compatibility and we can make something better.
Yeah I just read about the DDOS.. Would seem appropriate given that Slashdot is about communication.. if they cut that off.. well, it would make sense. Still.. with so many people interested in the story, it can't make life any easier on their box(en). New one at that! Good thing they upgraded when they did...
I think it's because so many people are interested in this whole thing about MS wanting Slash to remove those posts... news all over the place.. Slashdot is being... not Slashdotted... being dot.COM dotted? Lol..
Good point. Probably why Open Source projects have such a hard time faring in a Capitalist economy (although it's definitely not impossible.. actually it's probably still way too early to tell). I remember my science teacher telling us that.. well either socialism or communism is the best system there is -- because nobody lacks anything. He also added that it doesn't work in practice because people are greedy and so on.
Copyrights and software patents are the real evil here. Personnally, I'd like to see the action against MS be invalidating all of their patents -- especially with the threat they have to the Open Source movement (as revealed in the Halloween documents). Of course, I'm biased given that MS software patents could be a problem for ReactOS =) Don't get me wrong -- I'd like to see ALL software patents abolished. But this could be a very good first step.
Perhaps you missed the part where its written "Version 0.1.0".
Although we aren't expressly targeting embedded, it is an option. However, I'd say ReactOS would make the biggest impact on the desktop.
Cheers

The email from MS is dated 10th May.. they've been testing the new box for a while now, so I'd say it's coincidence.

Check out this pdf on the PEARS site: http://www.princeton.edu/~pear/preamble.pdf There's a definite Star Wars\Matrix feel to the text... cool!
