Who cares so much if it's "green"? How many of these do we launch a year - that might be what maybe 1/100 of a minute of smog eminating from California? Now... if we can easily manufacture these off earth, THAT should be the headline, IMHO.
Could you at least tell them to F-off? Seriously, I think I'd kick someone's ass eventually (not to be all uber-manly - maybe I'd get my ass kicked). Was this just your firm, or are all Manhattan firms like this? I've always found investment banking really interesting - I knew it was competitive on the business side and probably on the IT side as well, but Jesus...
I never, ever, ever thought I could get used to being called an a-hole to my face for, well, anything...that's just how you referred to.
Are you kidding me? Is that how they treated just you, just computer folks, or everyone? Really... F THAT! I wouldn't last two minutes then - money is great, but it's not worth self respect, unless you can call them a-holes back.
Funny, I just watched 'The Forbin Project' last night. If you've got an hour or so to kill and like evil computer stories and don't mind watching an old movie made in 1970 with the USSR as adversary you'll like this movie. It was quite good.
Well, irrespective of how MS attained their 'giant' status, they are certainly a giant. When that elephant moves all the mice take notice.
But I do agree with you about Yahoo! and Amazon, they were the hype companies of the '90s and they're still riding that inertia. Yeah, some of Amazon's business practices are certainly innovative (inventory management comes to mind), but a "giant"? No.
I think the seemingly farsighted Nokia would disagree with you. I'm saw this concept for Morph over a year ago - though I'm anxiously awaiting something that can do even half of this, I'm not holding my breath - though I will say it is coming, and it will be here eventually.
Goddamnit slashdot!!! I had an f'in essay written on this topic and inadvertently clicked on a link, thereby wiping my whole mother F#$*%^! comment out! Can you not save data in forms when I go back like every other webpage out there???
Well, obviously the history isn't obsolete, for the most part - and analyzing the relationships between the facts is what really mattered. Facts will always change, but our ability to analyze and understand facts will always be valuable. Sounds like that's where you developed that ability.
Are you aware of her "death squads" comment? GP was making an satirical analogy (and IMHO, a fairly valid one) about her comments related to the health care bill, which were completely incongruous with fact. I really miss the old Republican party... I could actually vote for them occasionally.
I sense Luddite/Republican/Libertarian outrage coming on (not that I've got a personal problem with most Luddites/Republicans/Libertarians). What do you want to bet we'll get Sarah Palin complaining about this in a week?
Yeah, I kinda feel you there. I'm kind of itching for some real leap in progress; I think it's due. Semantic queries ala wolfram alpha (well, not LIKE wolfram alpha, but what wolfram is trying to do) are where I'd expect things to go. Seems like the old guard are running out of ideas.
You know what I'd love to be able to search for - special chars. If I look up something like %d, any search engine is woefully inadequate. It's a problem when doing research on certain programming or IT related content. Anyone have any good ideas on how to do this kind of search? I've tried everything I can think of, and I think it's impossible to do on today's search engine.
Perhaps they should consider this newest of all concepts.... QA
Because the USA is a place where you ADD VALUE to you business, not a place where you cut costs.
To keep this going, all we've got to do is stay educated, competitive and open.
Am I on the rocket? If so - yes
MOD PARENT UP
Great post, thanks...

Astonishing

I was wondering the same thing. I came to the (completely uninformed) conclusion that it was not planned.
And city officials honestly didn't think of this BEFORE they put the system in place? It doesn't take a genius to think of this prank.
I prefer to exercise when I exercise and get to my meeting quickly when I use a parking meter.

Yeah, was wondering that too... actually went to the trouble to do a Google search, and found your question. Mod parent up?????
Yeah, just curious too.

I was thinking the same thing!! The sliders references didn't catch on like they should have.

Ugh... FRUSTRATION!!!
Because they're trying to make idle not suck. And I think they're doing a good job!

I can't wait for the starchild to be born...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that cringed in reading that...

Ah, '05. That makes much more sense then :)
