    Who cares so much if it's "green"? How many of these do we launch a year - that might be what maybe 1/100 of a minute of smog eminating from California? Now... if we can easily manufacture these off earth, THAT should be the headline, IMHO.

Was this just your firm, or are all Manhattan firms like this? I've always found investment banking really interesting - I knew it was competitive on the business side and probably on the IT side as well, but Jesus...

    Funny, I just watched 'The Forbin Project' last night. If you've got an hour or so to kill and like evil computer stories and don't mind watching an old movie made in 1970 with the USSR as adversary you'll like this movie. It was quite good.

    Well, irrespective of how MS attained their 'giant' status, they are certainly a giant. When that elephant moves all the mice take notice.

    But I do agree with you about Yahoo! and Amazon, they were the hype companies of the '90s and they're still riding that inertia. Yeah, some of Amazon's business practices are certainly innovative (inventory management comes to mind), but a "giant"? No.

    I think the seemingly farsighted Nokia would disagree with you. I'm saw this concept for Morph over a year ago - though I'm anxiously awaiting something that can do even half of this, I'm not holding my breath - though I will say it is coming, and it will be here eventually.

    Well, obviously the history isn't obsolete, for the most part - and analyzing the relationships between the facts is what really mattered. Facts will always change, but our ability to analyze and understand facts will always be valuable. Sounds like that's where you developed that ability.

    Are you aware of her "death squads" comment? GP was making an satirical analogy (and IMHO, a fairly valid one) about her comments related to the health care bill, which were completely incongruous with fact. I really miss the old Republican party... I could actually vote for them occasionally.

    Yeah, I kinda feel you there. I'm kind of itching for some real leap in progress; I think it's due. Semantic queries ala wolfram alpha (well, not LIKE wolfram alpha, but what wolfram is trying to do) are where I'd expect things to go. Seems like the old guard are running out of ideas.

    You know what I'd love to be able to search for - special chars. If I look up something like %d, any search engine is woefully inadequate. It's a problem when doing research on certain programming or IT related content. Anyone have any good ideas on how to do this kind of search? I've tried everything I can think of, and I think it's impossible to do on today's search engine.
