hmm... and how many people's deaths have been caused by your government? how many people in afghanistan and iraq and even Vietnam who were, from their perspective, protecting their sovereign soil from an invader, have been killed because of your government deciding it needs to police the world? by your reasoning George Bush and anyone in your government involved in attacking another country should be shot on sight, because they are "foreign bastards killing my neighboors".

get your head out of your arse and realise that believing everything that your propoganda machine says is said to invoke heavily nationalistic responses like yours without looking at the bigger picture... War, war never changes...

I used Vietnam as an example because the US never had any valid (read retaliatory) reason to be there.

PS: wtf is with the "Foreign Nationals" bit? would you really be more tollerant if it had have been a government official that killed 5000 Americans?

no, the vast majority don't... three people do... and unfortunately those three people are politicians and as such are trying to brainwash Aus into going along with it... Senator Conroy and SA's much loved premier Michael Atkinson (the douche who is single-handedly blocking an R rating for video games)... and of course the third is KRudd himself.
I haven't had a single conversation about the Great Australian Filter (GAF) where the other person actually thought it was a good idea... even people who don't really give a damn know when their rights are being eroded and understand that the concept is flawed.

FTFA: "He is not, despite the allegations, charged with distribution or even copying that movie."

308,863 is a helluva lot less than 10 million as you originally suggest. box office movies STILL sell millions of tickets plus millions of DVD copies, so the subset of people who pirate it and don't pay to see it in a cinema would seem minute in comparison, not rampant - about 4% if a movie sells 8 million tickets. and of those 4% many will have paid to see it in the cinema already.
I myself will pay to watch a good film, then download it so that I can watch it again before it is released on DVD... I consider my "tax" for seeing the film to be paid.
I may even download the film and watch the first few minutes to determine if it is worth paying to see in a cinema.
viewing every download as a lost transaction skips over all the contextual data that may be surrounding that one download.

Here in Aus our Uni is subsidised... if you pay via the "HELP" loan scheme, which is govt funded and interest free (but inflation adjusted) you pay around 500-600 per unit, so around 2-2.5k per semester. Once you graduate and get a job paying higher than X amount (I think it's $30k/anum) then you start having a percentage automatically deducted to pay off the HELP and it's just like paying a bit more tax.
But, and here's the kicker, if you manage to work your arse off through uni (I chose street walking as my means of income, so I literally worked my arse off, it hurts to sit down to this day) then you get a 25% reduction in the amount you have to pay. all in all a four year Uni course could cost you as little as $18000AUD, which is currently about $13000USD.
Of course the system can be rorted by the "intelectuals" (read hippies) who never get a job and spend their lives in uni... or by people who skip the country and find work elsewhere... but they won't be welcomed back to Aus with open arms.
