If enough of us ask smart TV manufacturers for our data perhaps they will have second thoughts.
We should however be prepared to pay more for TVs if they do.

thanks, you are right. I read it earlier this year in "True Names and the opening of the cyberspace frontier" containing the short story by Vernor Vinge and a series of essays by various computing luminaries, including Stallman's story, edited by James Frenkel.
