" As the FBI is not authorized to collect and store the photos, they use the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. "
Perfect example of a government entity CIRCUMVENTING checks and balances installed for a REASON.
Maybe this reason needs to be reiterated in such terms that the fucking FBI can understand it...then close the loophole that allows this circumvention.
Why does it have to be Nature that comes back to sabotage the whole mess?
Maybe some Enterprising Scientist in the future saw the results of us fucking around with stuff beyond our comprehension or control and came back to sabotage the tool that led us to it in the first place, in such a way that it would forever preclude us from revisiting the whole scenario.
Like sabotaging things in such a way that the LHC becomes a smoking crater in the landscape with the corpses of millions ringing the periphery--a permanent reminder of The Folly of Fucking With Things We Have No Chance Of Being Able To Control....or maybe the technicians at LHC haven't done this before and maybe, just maybe, it might take a few tries before they get it right.
Some people quite simply comprehend things more efficiently when the information is supplied in a context that is comfortable to them.
An example of this I used to use as an automotive mechanic was alignment angles of the steering and suspension systems. They can be related numerically, or graphically, but there is a third context that is what I tried to teach the younger mechanics in the shops I worked at--spatial. Some mechanics had a very difficult time translating numbers to making a car go in a straight line (it can be far more difficult then one might imagine). I tried to make correlations between the numbers and, say for instance, the angle the front struts actually lean forward and backward equaling -/+ caster changes--to attempt to get the image of the strut in their mind 3-dimensionally. When they could imagine visually the changes the numbers represented, it all fell into place--they understood it.
These changes to the table simply make it more accessible to people that think more visually. While it may work well for some, it may not for others. And that is just fine. Use what works for you.
As an outsider (that is to say I don't spend my waking hours dependent on the adulation of my peers via twitter, or any other such nonsense, to validate my existence), I wasn't supposed to understand in the first place. Forgive my intrusion.
Fucking technology. STILL can't tell me when I am outside of my social standing.
More middlemen. More slices out of a pie that has already been dished up.
A significant portion of "businesses" today are simply middlemen doing exactly the same thing.
Right down to the apple on my desk, a lot of someones are getting a slice of the pie. The grower, the trucker, the distributor, the vendor, the government inspector, the company that makes the pesticides and waxes that cover it, the fertilizer supplier, the taxman, the dude that made the box it was shipped in, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
Now, I realize that some of these people are essential--that apple didn't just magically appear on my desk--but when you get down to it, just how many people need a cut of my dollar to get a fucking apple on my desk?
When you start looking at businesses with this in mind, you begin to realize just how unnecessary a significant potion of these middlemen really are. They simply drive up costs--costs that are paid by all of us.
I don't really think it is evil. Illogical (from a consumer's perspective), yes, but not evil.
I also don't think that Google is being evil here. Sure, they are adding more middlemen to the equation (and yeah, I think that sucks), but more then likely, they simply realized that the arrangement converts the cost of distribution into a revenue source.
It not only confirmed what you say, but also answered my hopes that Peter will still be on board. The fact that he requested Del Toro to direct makes me feel a LOT better.
In all seriousness, I have nothing at all against Perlman. His very distinctive appearance could be a bonus, if casted properly. Who he might be casted as, I don't know, but it certainly isn't a Hobbit of Dwarf. As the poster below states, the voice of Smaug might actually be perfect. I can almost hear that voice booming through the heart of a mountain already.
It is just difficult for me to get anything but Hellboy out of my head when I think of him.
Can someone provide some sort of evidence of a non-Windows OS machine being part of a botnet?
If not, I think your idea might produce slightly skewed results.
"Windows market share seems to have reached an all time high of 100%(+/- 3%), based on current data provided by surveyed Botnet operators. The Botnet operators cautioned that 3% of respondents failed to respond, and that any data should take this into account."
If you have to sign up to be a part of the data gathering, it is NOT real-world usage, as the other billions of us out there haven't signed up.
And another thing.
The summary quotes a number of 10,000 sampled machines, yet the number in the first link says 20,000. Which is it, boys? A +/- variation of 50% in something as simple as the number of machines sampled leads me to believe there more then likely other errors.

Only Wendy finds out that SHE can't read the rest of the post...In fact, nobody but the poster can.
Teen Girls(between the ages of 10 and 12) around the world now have a new weapon with which to inflict great emotional distress on their anti-peers. I expect the carnage to be widespread and most gruesome (left, left, right, left, left...)

"...does anyone else when downloading software that asks for an email address, give the company their own email address back to them?"
They do now. Wonderful idea. Thanks.
Ever thought of running for office? Quite serious.
From the perspective of a terrorist, this would be a great boon to the cause.
They would instantly know where the cops are not...or even worse, when you start considering remotely activated bombs, where they ARE.
This has got to be a joke. Too stupid of an idea to be anything but a joke.
Yeah, yeah. Cough-syrup soaked syntax.
The Swine Flu made me do it.
I think you are like me--a visual thinker.

"...and with reduced costs since they won't be paying for massive amounts of useless god awful patents."
Or the lawyers that go with them...
OK. I had to Google it (go figure).
Now I get it.

Is it REALLY so hard to actually spell out a few words to explain an acronym in the summary?
Not once in the summary do we actually find out what MMS means.
Or is the article ONLY for those in the know?
Until then, I'll have to just assume that the Malaysian Mussel-fishers Society has problems with AT&T (Asynchronous Titillation & Torment).
Need I remind everyone?

I made a comment almost exactly like the parent quite awhile ago.
Parent: You now have exactly zero reason to use IE.

Please step over to the the cashier window for your winnings.
I suddenly feel very, very small...
I'd like to say images like this put things in perspective for me, but in fact they do the exact opposite.
"Scott Barnes, PM at Microsoft, agrees with him and suggests the problem is because various site sub-domains have different management"
I suggest the problem is the fact that I have 200+ Microsoft IPs blocked in my firewall making them far and away more useful to me then Apple's.

Here, I'll help you out a little.

Whoa. Sorry. Kinda lost it there for a moment.
I'm much better now.
Let me rephrase.
If Ron Perlman gets cast in this movie, I'm gunna fucking scream. If he gets cast as anyone but a PREVIOUSLY-TURNED-TO-STONE TROLL, I'm gunna start fuckin' shootin' people...
Guillermo del Toro?
Why not Peter? Did he decline?
