Pac-Man and Pong weren't "violent". Neither was Super Mario Brothers, unless you're a turtle or walking triangle-shaped head. You'll have to wait for the Mortal Kombat generation to be old enough to run for office. Most of us are in our early twenties.
If anything, it's the Jesusbots targeting me, not the Microsoft shills, as I really don't comment much on Linux-related stuff.
The Microsoft stuff is shameful, but I haven't really been targeted by it directly. I just find it amusing that they're trying to do this on a site which not only started out as a Linux site but is also owned by OSTG. Seriously, what's the point? I can understand going it to other tech sites, because there at least there's a chance of success, but doing it to Slashdot is like trying to put out a volcano by pissing on it.
It's interesting, actually. Pro-Linux posts get modded troll and flamebait with some regularity now. I haven't been a very Slashdotter for a long time, but the Microsoft fanboys (shills/astroturfers?) definitely have a much larger influence on moderation than they used to. They've deliberately attacked people that were consistently posting pro-linux stuff: just look at what they did to twitter, whose account is currently sitting in negative karma hell after having ACs copypaste the same exact diatribe at him for months. I got sick of seeing it and I'm not even the guy they were targeting.
Eventually, it's become more and more obvious that there are people whose sole purpose for BEING on Slashdot is to simply bash Linux even though Slashdot is by its very nature a Linux website. Why they find it enjoyable or interesting or even a worthwhile use of their time is beyond me- I simply don't see why anyone who doesn't use Linux would come to Slashdot, load a Linux article, and mindlessly bash Linux. Why not just play some of Windows games that you like so much, you know?
A warm dummy will likely be cheaper than a fine. A warm dummy is definitely going to be cheaper than two fines.
You watch, within a couple weeks of a warmdummy product hitting the market, they'll try to ban them and/or fine people for simply owning them.
Remember, the ultimate goal of these politicians is to have such a dizzying array of laws that they can arrest anyone at any time and always have a "legitimate" reason.
Java's advantage is the massive library and the GUI toolkits. Of course, GUI shouldn't be relevant to things like massively parallel server programs...
Of course Islam has trouble with science. It's no different than any other religion. Once you start with the preconception that "X is automatically right (because it's in a specific book)" you've rejected the scientific method utterly.
It's the exact same thing that's going on in America. The Jesus freaks utterly reject anything that might come into conflict with their preconception of GOD MADE THE EARTH IN SEVEN DAYS AND IF YOU SAY OTHERWISE YOU'RE GOING TO BURN IN HELL FOREVER. The "moderates" may be able to advance scientific despite their unscientific premises, but that only happens when the science is not in conflict with their religion, or when they ignore that conflict.
I've got a zd8000. It's irritating how wireless doesn't work, but I've just decided to accept that and plug into the wall. I haven't even considered swapping out the chipset because it's not really a big deal.
I think qcad is working now (sudo apt-get install qcad on ubuntu), but I make no promises as to its capability or functionality. I played with it for like 3 minutes once.
The refusal of all the major retailers to sell AO games amounts to nothing more than censorship. It's absurd. We should get rid of the "sex is bad" crowd, get people to realize video games aren't any different from movies, and keep the government regulation out of it. The game publishers shouldn't even bother getting their game rated in the first place if all that's going to happen is a refusal to sell them because they're rated too strongly. If stores are refusing to sell games that aren't ESRB-rated, then the ESRB has a monopoly and should be taken care of by the antitrust laws.
I'm blocking ads on my computer. I'm not stopping their server from sending out ads. People that want to see them (or don't know they can be blocked) will see them. The opportunity is there. I've opted out.
Just because I block ads doesn't mean you don't have the opportunity to see them.
They still have the opportunity for their ads to be watched. Just because I say "no, I'm not going to watch them" doesn't mean that the opportunity is gone.
Are you saying they should be able to force me to watch their ads? Bullshit. It's my computer, my browser, my connection, my screen, my LIFE. I'll opt out of ads every way possible, whether they like it or not.
The city was Tirion, the mountain was Túna. Hence "Tirion upon Túna".

And people say slashdot is "left-leaning"? Bullshit. It's pathetic to see the right-wing jesusbots downmodding anyone who points out the insanity of religion.
Yaw to the left? The right-wing Christian fundamentalists modded me Troll for stating a simple fact- religion is nothing more than organized lunacy. They have no more proof than UFO cultists.
Maybe if you use loonix you have to do it that way, but "killall konqueror" works just fine. It's the Solaris people who have difficulty with that one.
Compared to Comcast, which is $30 (or more, I have no idea what their post-introductory rates are) for internet access that's theoretically 3 megs but more like 1.5, I'd gladly pay for Copowi.
I'm on a college campus so I don't have to, but this could be nice when I leave, if I stay in the States.

Money IS power. You even admit that in the last sentence.

So Google's solution to "there are too many open source licenses!" is... to make another one?
I think qcad is working now (sudo apt-get install qcad on ubuntu), but I make no promises as to its capability or functionality. I played with it for like 3 minutes once.
Isn't that the whole point of open source? Combining the best stuff from other programs into yours?

Thinking about anything other than missionary position with a member of the opposite sex that you're married to.
Thus say the Jesus-freaks.
So if I load a webpage with flash ads in lynx (which doesn't support flash ads), I'm doing something wrong?
If a blind person loads it up in a speechreader, he's doing something wrong?

Fuck them both. The definition of religion is organized lunacy.
No, it's because Nixon threw them all in jail for using LSD.
You have to add the Commercial repository to /etc/apt/sources.list (there's a way to do this via the GUI in Feisty).
