Mars supported life when it was 'alive': its core was still active, shielding the planet from gamma rays and other radiations. Now it is a useless piece of red dust and rocks, no seismic activity, no earthquakes, no magnetic activity. Its a dead end... We'll find some other proofs of early life on the surface, might find some late fossils hidden under the surface, raise a flag and move on to deal with our terrestrial challenges, as usual!
Watchmen needed to be a 12episode tv show, with insight, not a movie from Hollywood.Seeing those CGI effects in the trailer makes me bitter. I really understand Alan Moore's decision not to be part of the movie, and not supporting the script. This is outrageous. Come this novel is magic at work! Who else would have envisioned the US being involved in Afghanistan and Vietnam(Irak) in 1986? This book is the Bible of everyone of us who has ever felt different from the mainstream media, and official history. Its the alpha and the omega, it really defines the very best that can come out of human imagination and litteracy:borderless. Why giving it to the brainless guy who did the odeous fascist adaptation of the 300 comic? SABOTAGE! We will not tolerate this, ALAN MOORE IS A MAGICIAN, and we will not fall for the work of some pervert and ignorant director/producer. I just wish (and I know)this movie will not be a hit(by Hollywood standards), just like V 4 Vendetta or From Hell, because they lack the deepness and insight of the original author's scripts.
Nuclear power is very efficient and definetly competitive on some points on the other side the only 'free' energy with infinite fuel is solar. Nuclear fuel is limited in time and the reserves are pretty scarce. So lets take this thing forward, the future of energy consumption lies ahead, with the architecture of a power grid that would run on huge solar networks scattered around the world for max exposure to photons that would run 24/7.
sorry for the millions of years i forgot, but it takes more than an atmosphere to make it earth like, see for venus or jupiter, though they have atmosphere, they will never be inhabitable. Mars, given its inactivity (core), does not generate a magnetic shield to protect life from the gamma radiations. So totally pointless to terraform unless we develop radiation shielding technology from scratch.
Sorry to be bad news, but i really doubt we will ever live on Mars,its an utopia. We might get some minerals and riches (some rare metals and alloys maybye) but there will never be any life or civilization on this planet, it will probably be exploited by robots. It has seized its volcanic activities for a long time, so the 'core' of the planet died several thousand of years ago, so there is no hope of having a planet with any atmosphere, and since the magnetic core is not existing at all, the gamma radiation levels will always be unfavorable to any settlement of human colony.
So, to our knowledge, there is only one planet on which life is possible, its earth, lets try to manage it cleverly for a while, since there is no escape from it.
