What is important with CxO's is that they need to justify their spendings. So if they have a unit of sys-admins, which do something, but they do not know what, they will see it as a potential to cut your budget, and save money.
So you have to show him some figures about the size of your systems. Are you running important infrastructure for the company? If so you should give him estimates of:
How much "money" is the data in these systems worth?
What is the cost pr hour or day if the system is down? $1,000 or $1,000,1000?
What if data is lost? How much can be lost? $1,000 or $1,000,000 or $1,000,000,000?
What is your systems reliance? Do they run with 99,99% uptime?
How much support do they generate? Is it possibility to reduce the support need, by improving the system?
Remember that if you give him sensible info about these things, you might get a better budget and more arm-space.
Since this is included in a pice of software that redhat is licensing to me/you/anyone, we are allowed to use the software along the spesific terms of the license agreement.
Since linux and redhat is GPL'ed, we are allowed to use it in any derived GPL-software???
Just wonder if someone could make a few more: 20gb ibm- one partition ibm jfs and one sgi-jfs 8 gb seagate reiser fs (jfs) 20 gb scsi needs a new jfs...
Yes This is the soulution...
(Those who only laughs of jokes and only take serious what is serious has not understood a thing...
Today I cleaned up my bookshelf, and in the process I
I throwd
A cd-rom manual from Creative. It was on about 250 pages. And told me nothing I could need. And that in 6 different languages..
A HP8100 cdrecorder manual. I could not help me when I had problems with my cdrom under Win95 and win98. It only told me which keys to press when I was going to install the driver.. There should be help with the program..
24 + 130 pages of speaker manuals that I didn't need. And that I doesn't think anyone need (Creative)
And I keept
four manuals (o'Reilly) of about 1000 pages..
My mainboard manual, screen manual, PCI128 (creative sb), 1502AP scsi controller. I keept them mostly for tech specs.
And what does this tell me? Well I think it tells me that those who print manuals have to think twice before printing... On the other hand they must try to get out "paperback" info that is good "paperback info".
So what do I want in paperback? Well I want tech-specs, guides on how to code and principles behind programs (HOWTOS??)
SCO-Unix is a falling star in my opinion. When I am considering to install a server, my options are Linux && FreeBSD. (Maybe Solaris if it is a Sparc something...)
But there is also rising stars in the UNIX sphere These stars are called Linux and FreeBSD (And NET and OPEN).
Then it is easy to see why SCO is counting on The rising stars in stead of their own falling one... Espesially when when there is more money in Tarantella then in their falling star...
Well it must be to complicated to do fine adjustments in "buble buble"-space-suits. And they just found out they couldn't thrust the robots (Just found out from the tour d'Mars)
No the only reasonable must be that they uninstaled NT and installed Linux.. Then it became so much more clear and stabile
I once heard about some guys running a Server for a lawyer firm. The desktops was win 95/98 and the server was imune. Then they found out that they had a virus on the system killing all the windoze machines.
Then they found out that there was no anti virus program for their Server OS (I doesn't know which)
Well I just thought of how much money the linux-distros have been getting lately. I estimate it to the >> 1 billion dollars. If that money is used to make better scalability, more userfriendly and good hardWare support.
With all that money coming around We (the community) would have the opportunity to make that happen. And if we got the 20 % of the servermarket, and 10 % of the software market nothing could stop us
This migth seem like a stupid question, but would I have to recompile everything if I'm about to change to the Hurd-kernel? (Is it enough to recompile all my SRPM-packages??)??? Shit Happens, Learn to live with it.
It looks like intel is the only architecture in question here. I think that until "Hotmail" is run by NT servers, noone with brain should say that NT is very high-end.
Solaris is very highend. There is a difference between beeing good and beeing the best. If linux is upto it remains to se
This is actualy a large step for linux. whether or not it is 50% or 10%. This is a sign from Compaq that it has fait in linux. And since Compaq is a large, solid and respected company, Higher management is going to listen.
This means that more companys are going for UNIX in general... And they need applications. Today many important buissness applications are missing for linux or are so incomplete that it is partialy useless. But software-companys are becoming scared not to join a "linux era".
But with compaq on our side, Those applications are more likely to be developed for linux. Examples are: Java, C++, Hardwaresupport, IDE programming tools, multimedia-players(Some formats is not supported yet).
But don't expect this to take three months. Make peace with your watch and think about one to three years...
I think deb should go for two releases... One ultra stable and tested and one more or less alpha/beta. Then System admins could run the "official release" and "I" could run something partialy beta. Then we would get more beta testers. (And by the way it's petty cheap to print extra cd's)
But what I as a coder realy needs when it comes to making GUI-frontends: something like VisualBasic or Glade. Coding a GUI-frontend is pretty much typing in things and testing it if it is what U want.
On the other side, it's good to have a book to look at examples on spesific matters of coding.
Well pc's bundled with windoze could act as two things: a game console (Like playstation & sega) og as a officetool (like LINUX, solaris and apple). And then we have NT a hybrid between server and workstation (Like the UNIX's).
But in the good olddays before win95 and linux there was a clear barrier between Servers, Desktops and game-stations like(nintendo, sega etc) With win95 this blured out and now people are using the same machine as (a sMALL)server, desktop and gameconsole. (my machine) But now it seems like if M$ is going to revert the changes and making specialized systems again.
Then we the consumers must decide if we want our 2000$ machine to act as a internett server for our house (To save the telephone company of extra stess), Desktop (so the kids could write their school-essays) and Playstation when U want to relax and take a break.
When it comes to cost it is not to expencive to use about 2000$ on a machine that can do all that. (U might not get the newes of the best). Just tink what it would cost to by a playstation, a pc. And yet U doesn't have a server... (The apps to run the server).
PS: I use linux for working, programing, music, netbrowsing, router for my neighbour, (sMALL DNS), and Then I use win95 for playing games!!!! (

If we boycot US, and people are stop coding new stuff in US, the it is gonna be a dead-lock for the US. No coders, no money :)
me hope :)
1- Is the baby going to be open sourced ? Of course. GPL is inherritable and Linux is OpenSource...
Just wonder if someone could make a few more: 20gb ibm- one partition ibm jfs and one sgi-jfs 8 gb seagate reiser fs (jfs) 20 gb scsi needs a new jfs...

What I really wonder is weather it would be open support... Then I mean OpenSourced Drivers...

Well I think that could be because it is a preview(beta) and not a release...
Sorry, I'm maybe not following this to closely, but I wonder if It is goning to be GPL'ed and if it is going to run Linux binarys like FreeBSD etc.

I think there has been a lot more rapid development this time. More resources/developers/changes...
Well it must be to complicated to do fine adjustments in "buble buble"-space-suits. And they just found out they couldn't thrust the robots (Just found out from the tour d'Mars)

Shit happens just gotta learn to live with it>/P>
I hope a lot of you buy shirts (But not enough that I don't get mine for a year) =]
Well that's how it's going to be once MDAA gets to sue you.
Well I just noticed that also has linux-2.2.14 and they have a lot of crypto in the kernel that isn't in the official kernel.
(That is why they doesn't put it on u.s. mirrors... (Crypto-regulations...))
This migth seem like a stupid question, but would I have to recompile everything if I'm about to change to the Hurd-kernel? (Is it enough to recompile all my SRPM-packages??)??? Shit Happens, Learn to live with it.
Just sort the commentlist after score and the fp's will end up on the bottom of the list (score 0) Shit happens, learn to live with it

There are a lot of officetools around... If U goto sun or corel (WordPerfect) U can get some office warez allready.

And by tha way I just wanted U to know that I have post nr 38...
(Please don't spam me (I really hope U do...))
