  1. Lets introduce First Name TLD's next on ICANN To Allow .brandname Top-Level Domains · · Score: 1

I think this is a very good move, in order of commerce this is just great mass-individualisation. Now the techies at ICANN are playing the same trick those commercial dudes have been playing on all of us the last 10yrs. I just say let start introducing first name TLD's soon. The.Marvelous.Mighty.Marcel sounds like a great homepage to me :-) *puts sarcasm sign up for a second* I mean, we can not do that, but then it's just a matter of waiting till the first folks are gonna register their firstname as a trademark and via that way register the TLD. Chaos is upon us, I really think so. Tho I think registering the .sex TLD and .porn TLD will be very profitable for those that can afford the startup costs for that right now. I honestly think we should start some online petition against this.

  2. Re:It's funny and sad... on Dutch Court Punishes Theft of Virtual Property · · Score: 3, Insightful

Message from the netherlands, and this has been in the news for a couple of days over here as well.
The i aint going into whether or legal system is good, if our priorities are screwed up, whether our sentences are too high or too low, but just a little feedback from the dutch sources.
please dont hold me for not using the proper words for everything, i will try to explain this as good as I can.
The sentence the 2 boys got was for stealing property with violence.
The motivation of the judge was that like with real-life property you had to go thru some kind of effort to obtain these items and being able to use them afterwards, therefor it is property and had some kind of value(ingame gold, status, emotional)
His motivation for calling it theft was that the boy who got beaten and threatened wasnt able to use the "property" after this, saying his property wasnt within reach for him and therefor stolen.

I hope this clearifies any questions about how the judgement was made.

  4. Re:ISPs have to be the solution on Botnet Mafia in Online Turf War · · Score: 2, Interesting

XS4all, one of the first and biggest ISP's in the netherlands, allready does this but not once every 3 months, but every single day.
as soon as they find your internet connection is scanning or sending spam you will get blocked from having full access to the internet.
Instead you can browse via a proxy, and once you have take serious measures so no more scans/spams are started from your connection you will be unblocked.

Faced this issues several times now when people didnt secure their machines enough, no anti-vir, anti-mal etc, but must say it works smoothly, you get a proper page when you are trying to browse without the proxy informing your connection has been "filtered" and that you need to take measures to prevent this in the future.
It all comes with a good helpdesk offcourse, where the technicians are able to judge whether the measures taken really have effect.

  5. Wine as Interim on No Wine for Dell Ubuntu Users, Says Shuttleworth · · Score: 1

I dont see why Dell decides to do so, dont understand me wrong, I think it is a great thing they have decided to install Ubuntu, but why not with Wine. Since still lot's of software isnt available for Linux, like the popular World of Warcraft, Wine might solves these last bits for many users. I think Wine is good as an interim solution, but the time has come for many software developers including game developers that they also make a version for Linux. I am affraid that by not offering this interim option at this point in time on the dell machines, if developers have done their part of the migration, wine can be excluded again. Would Microsoft have anything to do with this?
