You make it sound as if sitting at the computer, waiting to insert CDs, is a bad thing. I say he should download some Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, or Seinfeld, grab a blanket, and enjoy some quality time with his favorite protagonist.
That failing, could he design an AppleScript such that only one CD is ripped at a time? He could queue 3 drives and iTunes could simply go down the line. How scriptable is iTunes, anyway?
We know he doesn't have a virus because he's had the computer for 4 years without a single glitch, crash, or error. But let's use your logic for a second. Let's say he DID have a virus. The fact that it hasn't been able to cause a single problem for his machine is amazing. It's especially amazing because my roommate's Windows computer was brought to its knees only hours after infected.
I don't want to get too involved in the debate, but I'm a freshman at Berkeley. One of my roommates has a Mac, doesn't use virus software, and has never been infected. My other roommate stays current with security patches AND has virus protection software. He had to nuke his computer a few days ago because his virus software only could contain 30 viruses, and he had gotten a 31st. Within minutes of booting his reloaded computer, WITH SECURITY PATCHES, he had already gotten his first virus. I mean, for God's sake, he hadn't even opened a web page or a file. He hadn't done anything. His only crime was turning the damn thing on.
A kid down the hall got a brand new Toshiba a couple days ago. Fresh OEM software with all patches pre-loaded. He had a virus within 2 minutes of plugging into the internet.
From the recent Apple Analyst Meeting Conference Call: Q: "Any plans to support or license WMA going forward?" Jobs: "We decided to support an open audio codec standard rather than a proprietary one." (AAC).... "That's our plan and we're sticking to it. We're feeling real good about it too".
Of course, the paragraph you quote is also misleading. Apple's DRM technology is not proprietary, but rather an open standard. Look no further than WMA for something proprietary.
Not true. You still get to hear the pr0n from the obscured window. So when the camera switches from the money shot to the side-view and the actors change positions, you can still hear some skank in the background having sex with circus animals.
Fine. You don't have time to spell correctly. Whatever. Do you have anything to say about my original post? I believe I answered your argument, and you've done nothing but insult me.
If I've sufficiently answered your original post, please let me know. That way I can devote the little free time that I have to better uses.
Whatever helps you sleep better at night. By the way, next time try to actually refute my arguments. Oh, and work on those spelling and grammatical errors as well.
I don't know if I should honor your post with a reply, given that I attend Berkeley and you offended me and quite a few of my classmates. However, I can try.
I believe Congress was able to act quickly because the debate over this issue has already happened. As you might have forgotten, Congress authorized the FTC to setup this list several months ago. What Congress did today was formally spell out the FTC's new privilege. The overturning court faulted the list merely because the privilege had not been spelled out. It was more of a technicality than anything else.
Now, are you going to apologize for calling me a pussy?
Others have replied, citing tax breaks and less frequent oil changes. I have a couple more points:
1. Discounts on toll bridges and parking. Many cities are waiving tolls for bridges and discounting parking permits for hybrid drivers. Some freeways have opened their "carpool lanes" to hybrid drivers, even if there is only one person driving.
2. You made your cost prediction based on current gasoline prices. While prices could go down, which would enforce your argument, I predict they'll go up. How confident am I in my prediction? Enough to buy a car which would take advantage of it, that's for sure. However, you're free to base your purchases on your own predictions.
I don't want to get involved with your argument, but my friend's '85 Mercedes has this feature. It doesn't have hard numbers, just a scale of poor to good fuel economy.
I hate to nail you on a technicality, but ATI has great support for Apple products. But I agree, their support for non-MS and non-Apple systems is pretty piss poor.
It's a joke from a south park episode. Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna, Joseph Smith, and Sea Man form a club called "The Super Best Friends". They fight together against evil (except for Buddha, who doesn't believe in evil).
It's a spoof of the Justice League (cartoon with Superman, etc.) I think.
Gentoo, Fink, and DarwinPorts alone are not enough to conquer evil. But with their forces combined, they form *dramatic pause* the league of super best friends.
Good question. A few years back there were rumors that Apple was going to switch to Firewire for internal connectivity. Reporters had spotted machines at Apple with internal Firewire cables sticking out of drive bays. But this was never shipped. Why? Well, I have one idea.
Consider, for a moment, what Firewire is. It's a bus to transfer data from a chain of devices. This is why it supports speeds up to 800Mbps. Individual drives cannot utilize all of this speed by themselves. Therefore, unless you have multiple drives on the same bus (daisy chained), the speed is never fully utilized. That said, why would Apple WANT to use anything but IDE internally? IDE controllers are cheaper, and the IDE interface is plenty fast (100 Mbps) for any drive you can throw at it. In reality, Firewire drives are simply IDE drives with a new interface slapped on. It's cheaper for Apple to ship computers without that extra interface.
Plus, Apple would get a lot of flak for shipping computers with their proprietary standard. And to be honest, I would be one of those people dishing out the flak.
You are very misguided in this statement. Do you realize how little the big record companies pay their artists? Some artists receive zero funds for CD sales. Most artists receive little more than zero funds from record sales. They only make CDs to gain popularity, and consequently gain money touring and selling merchandise.
33% of sales might seem like a lot, but compared to 100%, it's a deal.
If anything, Apple will make artists more successful (exposure AND money from record sales).

It's hard to argue with stories like these.
From the recent Apple Analyst Meeting Conference Call: .... "That's our plan and we're sticking to it. We're feeling real good about it too".

General info sheet on AAC

Blast! You win...this time.
Not true. You still get to hear the pr0n from the obscured window. So when the camera switches from the money shot to the side-view and the actors change positions, you can still hear some skank in the background having sex with circus animals.
Not that I'd know or anything...

Haha. For the record, I play for the Cal Ice Hockey Team. Don't make me kick your ass. :)

Dunno about that. They already had the gas tank gauge. This additional gauge merely displays efficiency.
More likeley, because gas costs more in Germany, Germans are more concerned with their efficiency.

I think it's a German car thing.
Let's see how it grades works from Ellison, Fitzgerald, or Hawthorne. If it gives them A's, then we'll talk.
MacWhispers did a review of four different iPod FM transmitters. They liked a product called "AudiaX".
Their conclusion, however, was that FM transmitters kinda suck in general. Much better to simply get a line-in.
From the movie Van Wilder:
Random man (being shown an ink blot picture): "DUDE! It's a guy... and he's giving a circumcision... to HIMSELF!"
How exactly would his password turn out?
I hate to nail you on a technicality, but ATI has great support for Apple products. But I agree, their support for non-MS and non-Apple systems is pretty piss poor.
Barefeats is awesome, and the guy isn't afraid to publish results that hurt Apple.

The motion back and forth is non-random, plus the guy stops to let the machine grab the object.
Back, forth, back, forth, back, forth, stop, wait for grab. machine grabs ball.
I dunno. It just seems like cheating to me. I'm not very impressed.
Ooops. I didn't think you were right, but it looks like google agrees with you. Thanks for catching that.
