I can't remember where I read that (surely an old Slashdot story) some years ago, but some guy who was teaching Windows to the elderly got a lot of success by showing them the console, which he dubbed the "text mode" of Windows. The "graphical mode" was just too overwhelming for those. They prefered remembering commands associated with the tasks they wanted to do.

I saw recently a documentary that explained how they make artificial snow. (the complete video documentary -in french, sorry, no babelfish! - is here) And what they said is that the more filthy is the water, the better will be the artificial snow. Usually ski centers use non-treated river water for their snow cannons.

One of the hurdles to pass now though is that the radical "enviromentalists" now oppose any such renewable resources for fuel. Go figure. They have the idea that every ear of corn you feed to a car means some human is going hungry.

Actually, there is another problem with that kind of fuel: the production of sugar cane, or corn, or whatever, generally uses a lot of chemicals (fertilizers, etc.) that are by no means environment-friendly, so in fact there is pollution anyway, even if the alcohol fuel is less polluting.
