I read the May 2nd posting and I am going to borrow an excerpt from it. In the refernced post Hemos includes this portion of the Licence:
"b. The Specification is confidential information and a trade secret of Microsoft. Therefore, you may not disclose the Specification to anyone else (except as specifically allowed below), and you must take reasonable security precautions, at least as great as the precautions you take to protect your own confidential information, to keep the Specification confidential. If you are an entity, you may disclose the Specification to your full-time employees on a need to know basis, provided that you have executed appropriate written agreements with your employees sufficient to enable you to comply with the terms of this Agreement"
I ask you readers: How many of you would take "at least as great as the precautions you take to protect your own confidential information"; by posting this confidential information on a web site that is accessable to the whole world. MS as an entity has distributed this file to people who are not their full time Employees!!
I am not a lawyer but it seems to me that MS should be going after MS!

Obviously the one who commits the crime should be held responcible. There is nothing in this world that can not be used in a wrong way. Cars get you to work....but they can kill Email can be used for fast reliable communication....Spammers can flood your inbox with garbage. In the end the question becomes similar to the statement---Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Microsoft has been bullying other copanies for so long that it will probably be impossible for it to stop the process.
I don't know what Mr. Gates is thinking. During a time when you expect the Frankinstein Monster to hide from the rampaging mobs and their torches. Here we find it standing out in the open shouting at the top of its lungs.
Of course maybe Gates does not care. After all he is a multi-billionare. What does he care if his copany is broken up and chaos ensues. This is the man who made his money by stealing the ideas of others (Apple). He may think that we "Can't handle the truth!".
I have no problem with the media, or who ever wants to read comments, looking at the opinions posted here.
However if they are going to use those comments or posted articles then they should give credit to the authors. And if those choose not to leave their names then they should declair that the submission was annonymous.
But probabally the most important thing of all would be to give credit to Slashdot itself.
I have seen how these copanies, who depend on their networks, treat their IT workers. Many times they "outsource" the network duties to contracting firms so that they do not have to hire and pay their own employees to do the work. This saves the megacorp lots of money. If the contracting firm after a few years demands too much money they are replaced by another firm. Many times this costs valuable IT employees to loose jobs, benefits, etc. Hopefully things will get better; But until then look out for yourself or you could be one of those 'NetSlaves' who gets stepped on so that someone else can profit.
I'm not sure if this "profiling" of our youth is a good or bad thing. I worry that some individuals who are guilty of nothing but being individuals will be hurt by this. However I feel that the LARGER issue is the question: Willl it make a difference? Are we wasting time and money for something that will not be enforced?
My girlfriend works as a Music Teacher for a MD school district; and she could tell you right now which children will be the "problem children" (the ones most likely to be violent, in jail, or who need real professional help). These are children who are sent to the office every single day (many times more than once per day) for major behavioral issues. All the other teachers know who these disfunctual and disruptive children are. They even spread the word and warn each other about them. They even try to get them removed, disiplined, or helped with loud voices; but nothing gets done. My girlfriend is even frightened of one of these children whom she describes as potentially INSANE!. However this child remains in the classroom a threat to the saftey and learning of the other children.
At one of these highly covered mass shootings the police had been warned to keep an eye on the one perpetrator. His father was trying to get him psyciatric help. Yet he was able to enter the school grounds and gun down his classmates.
Before we impliment this un tested program to identify "problem children", We need to determine what we are going to do with the ones that we will find!!
