The Dell Precision M6400 was the only Windows machine I have found with the combination of hardware specs (i7, 17" WUXGA, decent NVidia/ATI card) and form factor (if my laptop is 2.5" - 3" thick, I'll just get a desktop). Unfortunately. configured to match a comparable 17" MacBook Pro, it was always $400+ *more* than the Mac.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the terrorists that would be communicating over some random unsecured channel are not the ones one should be concerned about. I mean, it's great for the security apparatus because they get to say that they captured some sort of terrorist mastermind when they get some of the bumbling idiots that would use these sites... oh yeah, that's why.
Socialism is an economic policy, not a personal freedom policy. The US is accelerating towards totalitarianism. Oddly enough I recall having entered a number of those socialist countries that some Americans like to rant about without any ridiculous searches.
Sure, there may be 60,000 of said people around, but 59,999 of them are sitting there saying, "I could have been a contender" while Woz did it. Genius is more than just raw knowledge or understanding. I'll bet you'll be hard pressed to name more than a handful of people as influential as Woz at the stage of the industry that spawned Apple.
I'll make a bet that the large majority of copies of Windows in Ecuador are pirated and hence don't contribute to Microsoft or really get anything from Microsoft, so to them this doesn't matter either way. I say this from years experience living and working in South America. I recall being able to purchase any Microsoft software for about US$2.
Of course, there was an government agency whose job it was to stop piracy. Every once in a while, (probably when the right people weren't bribed) you'd hear about raids and penalties and whatnot. However, they couldn't be too aggressive about the whole business, as you can't really afford to shut down a lot of companies that are contributing to your economy over pirated software.
In short, it mostly likely doesn't affect Microsoft and it only affects those who are legal licensees of Microsoft products. Way to go, MS, that'll show all those using pirated software why it's good to pay for licenses/support.
I read a better article about this, though I can't find it right now. According to the maker of the survey all numbers are +/- 2 points. I.e. the difference between Yahoo and Google is NOT statistically significant.

I think they just can't kill the beast.

If you give the mouse a new radio to play the CD he will ask you for a cell phone so he can adjust the radio and talk while driving.

Stone tablets? Writing! When I did my tests you had to sing the entire oral canon while accompanying yourself on a lute!
