I (like many others here) have been doing web stuff for over 10 years and have helped people develop systems like what you're probably wanting. Nothing worth doing can be done in a week or so. Years ago I started helping a friend build a different approach to ecommerce shopping carts (foxycart.com) and I thought it would take a weekend. We're still working on it.
The main point I want to make is anything you "would get bored of" is hard to sell to someone else to do the work for you, especially if you're trying to entice them with the hope of future profits. If you can't put in the day after day, hour after hour grunt work to make a business profitable, don't waste a developer's time building it.
Web-based companies, in my opinion, should be championed by web developers, not just guys with an idea. If you're going to build and sell furniture, as an example, I think you should know how to put together a chair. Rarely do successful people start a business they aren't intimately involved in, but for some reason entrepreneurs attempt to do this with a web-based businesses every day... and then wonder why they fail.
Stick to your core business skills, add a website like you'd add any marketing tool. If you want to build a web-based business and that's not your area of expertise, then find a developer who has the same vision you do and work together or go do something else.
That's just my opinionated opinion.:) I've seen things succeed and fail and know how frustrating and rewarding both can be.
There's more to life then this... more to life than what we see. It amazes me that an entire nation can go through the motions and yet have so many people continue to miss it. Prayer.
Today America prayed.
This nation was founded as a Christian nation on Biblical principles. We are a nation that built a government to protect freedom and liberty through a system of laws that God created.
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal
their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Have you ever actually read the Bible? Ya know, the most translated, most printed book in all of history... You ever actually read it? I used to be the standard hypocritical WASP that/. so diligently flames... until I read that book for myself.
Our lives are made up of more than cable TV and broadband internet. Everyone is searching for a meaning, for destiny and a purpose. The purpose of the creation is only found in the mind of the creator. Have you talked to Him lately?
I'm a graduating student at the university of pennsylvania. One course I just finised today was Operations and Information Management 311, which focuses on business C++. Every homework assignment had a corresponding model that we could work from... the teacher, however, made it clear that we had to physically type up our own programs without copying anything from the samples. He even went so far as to water mark the files so that a dialog box would pop up saying "Oops!! this is a sample. Do not turn in."
Today he just gave out 22 zero's for the last assignment.... I noticed that he added a bunch of spaces after each line. I removed most of them, but apparently I didn't remove all of them.
Is it just me, or does that seem a little crazy? Coders borrow. Good coders steal.
Is it just me, or does this sound like a little kid whining about his toy being taken away?
Statements like: These people are enacting policy, cutting deals with large technology companies and signing things that look suspiciously like treaties with governments and quasi government groups (some of dubious legitimacy). ...should be backed up with a little substance. Does anyone have this stuff on record, or is it just a lot of hot air?
I like to get paranoid and call everything a conspiracy just as much as the next/. reader, but, to me anyway, the evidence is what makes it fun.
It's sad to say... but today's gaming market seems to be in bed with the blinding speed of the latest CPU. Gone are the days when people could be satisfied with simple games like Tetris.
If the newest game doesn't require the lastest 32mb graphics card and 900Mhtz CPU... it's just not worth it. So how does Linux fit in? What corporate ties does Linux have with hardware developers? MMX and Active X compatible CPU's act as a kickbacks for game developers... And it works both ways: We make a new software technology which will give you a reason to make a new hardware one.
Considering that Linux is always playing catch up in terms of hardware compatibility, MHO is that it will be quite some time before Linux is a major game player.
All I have to say is that Rob rules. Every time I've had a question about gaim he's answered me right away. Everyone should give him mad props for making (IMHO) the best message client software out there.
I got involved with DivX;) when it was still "underground". It's amazing how far they've come. I can remember the first few trailers over at http://divx.ctw.cc/ that blew my mind (sure beat the crap out of vivo's that everyone was using). I think it is SO important to support this format and keep it going because it is a real life example of the "little guys" making it. They've had to fight against microsoft, realplayer, and the government. A lot of "purists" are still whining about the loss in quality... give me a break. These things are excellent. Most people don't have 10mb lines to leech 2 gig avi's anyway.
So do what you can to support them and we'll be one step closer to an internet that truly is
multimedia compatible.
If eBay is in the clear, what happened with napster?
We are trying to hold eBay responsible for its auctioning conduct...
How is Napster different then an auction service that is only based on how much you like a song, not how much you want to pay for it? Why can't the courts make up their mind?
You can't help but wonder... with Flordia shifting around, at last check Bush was actually leading CA even though they gave it to Gore... Do you think they call them even though it's too early just to keep it close? I was checking (and rechecking) the state by state votes and a lot of them that are really close have already been called with a very small percentage in... What's the deal with that? How can they make a call like that (and risk pulling another FL)?
Can we get a few more posts on which files have actually been viewed with this? I've got everything compiled correctly but all I get is a seg fault when I try to load a DivX. I tried to sign up to the mailing list but got no response (anyone else out there have any luck with that?).
I've been messing with video since the vivo format was the best thing out there and every single time I see a DivX I am blown away with the incredible quality. The ONLY reason I reboot to winblows is to watch DivX's and I've been hoping for a video player for linux for a LONG time...
Please let me know if anyone out there has had/overcome problems trying to get this to work.
I have started using Linux consistenly for the past year or so and I love it. Just like everyone else, I get so excited to hear about a large company throwing money and respect at Linux, but something always bothers me... In the back of my mind I can't help but wonder... Will Open Source and the love of freeware stand up against all those big dollars? More and more I am starting to see shareware apps and trial versions of Linux software popping up everywhere. I used to tell my friends that everything for Linux was free... not any more. What about in a year or two? Will companies like IBM who are "hedging their bets with Linux" start demanding money for their risks? I just love free Linux apps so much that I get nervous when I see too much $$$ around Linux. Just my 2 cents.

I hope I'm wrong.
Until then I'll just stick to tetrinet.

Napster is just an indexing system... That's all they are. They provide a service that catalogs and indexes files.
Are we really going to start riding laws about how to index data?
