  1. People work on Open Source because they are lazy. on Why Do Open Source? · · Score: 1

Without any basis to back up my claims at all, I will assert that (most) people work on open source because they are lazy.

You can either start your own project, or you can just pick up something else that is close, and add on a little bit so that you get what you want.

There are a few exceptional individuals that begin projects, and I would have to guess that they do so either from necessity (lack of an existing product) or because they like free beer.

My personal opinion is that few projects actually get done for purely religious reasons.

  2. Two words: Direction Finding on Engineers Build Satellite Jammer · · Score: 1

There is nothing easier to do direction finding on than someone trying to jam you. Perhaps the jamming resistance isn't electronic at all, but manifests itself in the form a Tomahawk missile cruising in on you.

Or for you conspiracy nuts, maybe 4 guys in black suits will just show up at your door and put you someplace you where you won't be conducting any more jamming exercises.

  3. Wells Fargo has problems! on On Paying Bills Online · · Score: 1

There are other problems with Wells Fargo. Like the previous poster said, the funds must be in there sooner than normal. The 5 day travel time is no big deal (I assume this is one method of them making it profitable, and I really don't mind).

But, this is my major beef with them:
From the second the money comes out of your account, Wells Fargo records the bill as paid. Of course, there is a 5 day delay before your creditor receives payment, and possibly a bit longer before they say that you have paid.

This means that Wells Fargo is claiming to have paid something long before it is actually paid. They need another possible entry for the status column "payment allocated and pending" or some such.

I have lodged my complaint with them, and if you use Wells Fargo, please let them know.

Along those lines, do these other systems provide more accurate, and up to date record keeping?

  4. Re: CTRL keys on both sides. and chording. on Interface Zen · · Score: 1

This discussion has renewed my interest in a keyboard that doesn't have the vanity keys, but still has CTRL keys on both sides. I checked out the Happy Hacker keyboard, but it only seems to have one CTRL key. I use emacs heavily, and I rather like the chording, but I do it from both sides of the keyboard.

Incidentally, It should be noted that with chording, your hands don't need to leave the home position. Its all a matter of preference I suppose. I had an SGI keyboard for a while, but they don't seem to sell just parts.

  5. The copyrights that really need to be enforced. on DVD Situation Takes New Turn · · Score: 1

The copyrights that really need to be enforced by these Hollywood bozo's are the lame ideas for movies that they are constantly stealing from each other.

In fact, if we were lucky, one of us could patent a lame idea process, and sue their pants off for nine tenths of the movies they produce.

  6. Aiding copyright infringement? on DVD Situation Takes New Turn · · Score: 1

Providing the methods to infringe upon a copyright holders material is just ridiculous. This would make the sale of the following items a sue-able offence: 1. paper & pen 2. copy machine 3. any photographic equipment 4. teaching your child to speak (they may repeat someone else's words in an unauthorized manner.) Where does it end?

  7. Cell phone using rats. on Linkage between Cell-phone Usage and Long Term Memory Loss · · Score: 1

In studies involving rats using cell phones while driving memory loss a proven. No rat ever remembered to use a turn signal. Exits were commonly forgotten until the very last minute, when the rats also apparently forgot that you don't cut across 2 lanes of traffic, and the double white line just to make the exit. Several other drivers in the rats' blind spot were also forgotten about.

Actually the NSA is restricted from a few things:

    1. They may not collect in the US.
    2. They may not collect in the country they are in.
    3. They may not collect on US citizens.

The obvious caveat to all the conspiracy nuts is that they are only barred these actions in their public rules.
