Excellent! This is really cool - I spent all morning working on my email to them.... nice to know the effort was worthwhile!

No problem - but... no film fests near here

Will it ever be possible to purchase this through anyplace? I for one would love to see a good copy of it, and if that means buying it in 35mm - then I guess it's time to get a projector *grin* (I'd rather have a vhs or mpg, tho).
I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort to put this out there - I don't think that the automatic assumption should be that people who are asking about it are trying to rip anyone off. The nearest film festivals to me are a three hour drive and the cost to get there is out of my budget range...

The computer in Barbarella had this cool wall-o-metal thingys that moved when it talked... I want one that'll do that. I suppose it still wouldn't solve the case problem, but it'd be really cool.
I'd suggest just losing the case - we have a computer at home that just has everything mounted onto a 1x6. It's easier than trying to fit everything into the case, and you get better air circulation too. Make sure you use those little motherboard feet, though - I don't think it'd work as well mounted flat on the board.
It reminds me of the old Bloom County where they go to buy a wheelchair - "What's so unique about this one?" "It has purple arm pads!". Aren't there any industrial design geeks out there willing to take this on? The coolest case I've seen so far is one we made for my brother... painted the case matte black, ran wires out and up the side, big black pipe on the top, chrome & latex accents. I'd like to be able to buy something like that. Or a totally round case... why is it so hard to find something like that??
Sure you don't have your threshold set too high? I was able to read BOTH of your postings, as well as your snotty-ass posting about them being deleted. I think it's unlikely that any of your other posts were deleted either... threshold settings are set in your user preferences. Just because a posting isn't offensive doesn't mean that it'll automatically get a high threshold.
You can read everything, even moderated posts, by adjusting your threshold (copied from the "Important Stuff" list that is right below where you hit the button to post a message - it's not hard to find).
Try checking it out before copping the attitude next time - surely your 10+ years of technical experience has taught you the importance of checking for errors?
Being as cynical as I am I can see the moderators who are of such that mind easily deciding my the post is a "troll" or a "flame" and killing it. Hopefully you all will learn in time.
You might be able to cure some of that misplaced cynicism with a good dose of reality. Hopefully you will learn that with time.
*grin* I'm working as a secretary - any of you programmers want to try and figure out how to run the billing for our ISP? Or handle customers who call? I can't reprogram our billing software, and I can't set up an ADSL line. However, I am the one who sells the lines that our admin installs. The closest I'm ever going to get to programming is html... and that's really as far as I want to go. My strong point isn't programming - and our admin's strong point sure as heck isn't dealing with people. My grandmother doesn't and shouldn't need to know how how her modem works in order to check her email - she has no reason to, and learning that would take away from time she could better spend doing other things.
I think the main problem is that people refuse to learn things that are involved with what they're doing - and then get annoyed when the computer does what they told it to! I do believe that technology should be accessible - and that people should learn the stuff that they need to use for their purposes. I know how to use a unix system, but have no reason or desire to learn how to install and configure one.
While technology shouldn't try and please the lowest common denominator, it also shouldn't require a PhD in order to use a word processor.
Um, most people get jobs to take care of that. But then again... I can't see why anyone would want to hire this bozo. Plus he'd probably spend all his time trolling newsgroups.
Agreed - it's nice to see for a change the sort of thing that people have to get through. It's just that a writer gives all the steps, doesn't just say "well, the computer was damaged, so i went and had it fixed". It doesn't really make for gripping reading that way.
These aren't the normal/. news articles - people shouldn't expect them to be written the same way. And you don't get the right to act like an asshole towards someone just because you're not face to face with them.
I heard the BBC World Service broadcast about this last night - unless better info comes out soon, the whole thing looks like a giant ego trip for the people trying to dismiss Pluto.
One astronomer made the good point that although Pluto is erratic, it still meets the planetary criteria. "Just because a duck is small, you don't call it a chicken". The astronomer against Pluto didn't even bother to give any coherent argument, just kept saying that Pluto was a "weeny little thing" and that it was nowhere near being one of the "proper planets". I mean, what kind of garbage is this?
And since when has a poll been the correct method for determining scientific "truth"? We don't have people voting on whether we should keep Einstein's theories, or whether gravity exists. I think the whole concept behind this is ridiculous. I agree that Pluto has some irregularities, but it doesn't seem to meet the criteria for other astronomical objects - and there's no just cause to throw out the entire scientific process.
All right. Now maybe we can tear down some of these nasty sprawling useless malls and put some TREES back in! Seriously - employment will be redistributed, the economy will go on... some dingbat investors will get burned, but that's the stock market for you. I'm glad that there's at least a possibility that we might be able to get rid of some of this redundant shopping space. And it'd be good for property values to drop some - at least from my perspective, since I haven't gotten any yet.:)
It is likely that Terminator will kill the seeds of neighboring plants of the same species, under certain conditions. The scenario might go like this: when farmers plant the Terminator seeds, the seeds already will have been treated with tetracycline,...and will be ready to act when the end of seed development comes around. The seeds will grow into plants, and make pollen. Every pollen grain will carry a ready-to-act toxin gene. If the Terminator crop is next to a field planted in a normal variety, and pollen is taken by insects or the wind to that field, any eggs fertilized by the Terminator pollen will now have one toxin gene. It will be activated late in that seed's development, and the seed will die. However, it is unlikely that the person growing the normal variety will be able to tell, because the seed will probably look normal. Only when that seed is planted, and doesn't germinate, will the change become apparent.
In any case, dead seeds, where they occur, would be a serious problem for the farmer whose fields are close to the Terminator crop... If many seeds die, it will make saving seed untenable for the adjacent farmer. Even if only a few seeds die, they will contain the toxin and any other proteins engineered into the Terminator-protected variety. These new "components" may make the seed unusable for certain purposes.
Surprise, surprise. Monsanto's been working on this for a while - they just can't stand the idea that plants continue to reproduce without people paying for them again. Classic, huh? And they don't mind trashing other people's crops in order to protect their investment. Good luck proving in court that your planting was killed by the Terminator toxins. You wouldn't even know what to look for unless you knew what your neighbor was using.
I am normally mild-mannered, but I hope Monsanto rots. This really ticks me off.

And the only way to prevent your crop from being killed is to use their product. Neat, huh?
