I've been doing just this for some time now using this kit from EBuyer (USB 2.0 To IDE/ATAPI Cable Complete With Power Supply) using a 60Gb ExcelStore (it was cheap) harddisk with two partitions. The drive shows us as sda1 (partition 1)and sda5 (partition 2) - there is a reson for this, that escapes me at the moment.
It works well under NT 2000 and Linux Fedora (RH), however, I had problems using it under an older version of Mandrake.
The big issue is, as mentioned syncing the drives, if you find away round this I would be very interested.
My current fix is to always unmount and wait before unplugging, even then I cant always get the drive to remount without the obligatory reboot. this is obviously due to the buffering going on.
This would probably increase the usage of Helmets, if only for the coolness factor of a HUD.
People who don't wear helmets (or lids as we call them over here) get exactly what they deserve.
Evolution is something that happens to the weak, and there is a reason for that. I still cant belive that there are people out there that stupid, well perhaps I can after all.
BTW. I ride a GPZ 500 (slow and small) and a ZZR 1100 (1100cc 172 mph) and no I don't look down at any speed above 80, you travel to far in that time.
To the chap on the 650XS nice 1970's bike. Not to knock it but it probably does 65-70ish on dodgy brakes. You cant really compare that to one of the newer Jap pocket rockets.
I do however think that there is a place for the HUD - just as there is a place for bike to bike radios. I recently sized my engine while travelling at some speed and any prior warning to that would have been nice:->
As to the big sky theory, I like it. No pot holes/cars/lorrys/bees (dont ever get hit in the face by a bee at speed - visor up, didnt do that again) in the sky. Anmy fighter pilots out there who are bikers ?, what's your take on this.
So, its time to try it and see.
Noteably research is beign done in to grand based lasers shooting missiles, they work by heating the airt infront of the missile changing the density, said missle then tears to bits as it goes through the density interface.
How did I guess that something would post some bait !. Oh yeah, think about how many wars have NOT had major religious input. Tho shalt not kill, except anybody who's different. This means YOU.
All the coders here (UK) have or have had a bike, usually sports mines a GPZ 500s, old but not too old. never found a car that can pass me yet in the way to work !!. N
