    Taking an extra second to click an "OK" box is not my idea of intrusive. If you do think that's intrusive, you are likely the kind of person too lazy to get off the couch because you left the remote next to the TV.

    (note: "you" means the general you, not "you, sarkeizen")

    With that in mind, There are definitely things that still need to be worked out with Windows 7...but overall, it runs smoothly and has been rock solid on my hardware (copied and pasted from my [H]ard|Forum account:

    I still haven't had a chance to try Win7, though from all the positive feedback I definitely will when I get around to my next system overhaul.

    As stated above, it certainly has some tweaks that could be used, but overall it's a great operating system.

    Amongst many other reasons why, it even boots and runs faster and smoother on my Dell Mini 9 than a stripped down version of XP. Seriously.

    UAC is still annoying to the point that I disable it completely

    Seriously? It's much improved over Vista, and there have been two times where it actually has caught some bad joojoo that otherwise may have caused trouble. I don't mind it at all.

    DirectX 11 has been completely ignored by the game industry

    Would you consider that Microsoft's fault?

    I run Windows 7 because it is the latest release, but I wouldn't say I have nothing but praise for it.

    If you noticed in my OP, I said almost :-) It's a great update to XP, and a sizable improvement over Vista.

    To be fair though, Vista laid the groundwork for Windows 7, which I have (almost) nothing but praise for...so maybe it was worth it. Besides, just like XP, as Vista got on in age it became much better.

    Unlike XP, people won't be using it 9 years after its release...

    Not sure if they will test for other things or not, but that's the list provided thus far.

    Frankly, I'm not sure you could survive college without knowing those things about yourself...

    Advertising puts the idea of the product they are trying to sell, into your head. It may be that you 'want' the thing once it is there but before the advertiser got to work on you, there is every likelihood that you would have been perfectly happy without the product.

    You really have no idea how advertising works do you. They must love you.

    My point is I would rather see advertising about a new motherboard or a speaker set rather than tampons or life insurance.

    Many people consider advertising to be a malicious use.

    Personally, I don't mind my information being used for advertising. Living in 2010, it's an unavoidable fact of life that we are going to encounter advertising everywhere. I would much rather it be for products and services that I actually have an interest in rather than stuff I don't care about.

    easier than cmd? you must be new here.

    If by "new here" you mean "under the age of 45", then yeah. I grew up around DOS, and I STILL prefer a GUI to a command line for getting stuff done.

    Stop hoping for half-arsed solutions, trying to "jailbreak" your phone to do that, etc. Just buy one of the cheaper, easier, simpler devices that supports it out of the box without getting in your way or voiding your warranty. The companies that make those devices obviously know what you want and, crucially, will have been doing it properly, for longer.

    This is my primary problem with the iPhone. I shouldn't have to hack my phone to do basic stuff.

    They can do whatever they want in their personal lives. I consider personal life and professional life as completely separate. Failing one doesn't automatically mean you fail the other. The guy has been reelected for multiple elections, so obviously his constituents liked the job he was doing. Had this personal life problem not come to the surface, he likely would have won again, considering he just won the primary.

    It's not like their character could effect their job or anything..

    I've known people who, on the weekend, snort coke, drink themselves silly, or any number of other reckless activities. Yet Monday through Friday, they are at work, every day, on time, working their asses off. The point is, I don't care what you do in your personal life so long as it doesn't affect your professional life.

    Personally, I'm glad this guy is gone due to his views on the "war on some drugs"...but that is irrelevant, insofar as resigning due to a personal issue is concerned.

    Oh, young one, what you don't realize is they would if it were politically expedient. Who created the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy? Who has failed to reverse this policy?

    I know where you are going with this, and I completely agree...but again, Democrats don't try to convince me to vote based on whether I think gays will destroy marriage (newsflash: they won't). Republicans do.

    hey, McCain even had a healthcare plan that in many ways looked like what Obama ended up with.

    In much the same way, there are many things Obama has done that Bush also did...yet Dems hate Bush and Repubs hate Obama. ::shrug:: The public is fickle enough as it is, but when it comes to politics, they lose their collective shit.

    You know what the difference is between Republicans and Democrats when it comes to things like this?

    Democrats don't run their campaigns talking about how gays will ruin the sanctity of marriage.

    I honestly don't care what politicians do behind closed doors. You want to cheat on your wife? You go right ahead, that's a problem between you and your family. But if you campaign by talking about how marriage must be protected because it is sacred, and then you violate that sanctity, it becomes my business.
