Who cares if he commited crimes using "technology". Whether they want him to talk about it or not its still his CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. It's not even just a contitutional right. It's the FIRST ONE LISTED out of any of them. This is because the original writers of the constitution thought it was the most important. People cannot just go around honoring the constitution whenever they feel like it. I hope KM appeals this and tells each and every news outlet that he can find. It's outrageous to think that somebody decided "He can't lecture on this." Probation or not he can't have his right to free speech curtailed, it just will not work that way. Pisses me off........
Metallica doesn't want all the junior high kids to D/L a song from reload or S&M and realize how much they suck before they buy them and then decide not to. I have religiously followed Metallica's music for a long time(Kill em All - Garage Inc). I probably shouldn't have bought Load or Reload because they sucked but i wanted the braggins rights of "I have all of Metallica's albums". S&M sucked, hard. I will never buy that album or any more albums of theirs unless they drop this stupid Napster lawsuit and start to sound like they used to. That means I probably will not be buying any more Metallica albums. lol When they sit down and listen to RTL or MOP, then Reload they have to feel like a bunch of retards. S&M was a pathetic attempt to rehash and reuse old(good) material. From what I've seen in other bands this is about the stage in development when they realize that they suck now and break up. I hope to god Metallica will break up soon and save what little dignity they have left(if it hasn't gone negative yet).
To force Microsoft to make new versions of Windows POSIX compliant and then to also make them only create POSIX compliant applications(ie Word, Visual Studio, minesweeper(lol), etc). If vendors were smart at this point they would only create applications that are also POSIX compliant, because they would be available to a larger group of users(windows, *nix, etc) as opposed to solely windows users. It seems a perfect solution to me, except the inevitable "microsoft flavor POSIX" that would surely follow. hehehe
My friend just got a 21 inch moniter yesterday and we loaded Q3 at 1152x864, 32bpp. it still looks killer, but the main problem with a voodoo3(which he has) is how high the res can be set to. he is currently running it on 1280x1024 but is waiting for a GeForce2(probably will buy one on its first day out) so we can run it at 1600x1200 and possibly higher if supported(yes its that big. i drooled). if i could see quake 3 and unreal tournament in 1600x1200/32bpp and full screen anti-aliasing without lag i might just have to steal his moniter. my point being that it's not necessarily about frames per second as much as supporting a higher resolution and still having enough horsepower to render the whole thing.
I don't know if anybody has said this yet, but one possible application i can think of is home security.
Imagine you're on vacation and you want to know how your house is doing, so you sign on with your laptop from the hotel room and log into your home computer(which obviously has a static IP, its the 21st century you know). At this point you run a program to analyse the log files your computer has been making on the status of your home(such as doors opening or closing, windows breaking, motion sensor lights being activated, etc. all with timestamps). You discover that a window was either opened or broken at 3:00 AM the night before and are presented with the option of emailing your local police station to go check it out.
I don't think computers will be given the ability to remotely unlock doors or open windows because of security risks, at least not until technology of the sort matures to the point where it can be safely done. I think that at first it will mostly be used to moniter and log access to a home.
As far as being able to turn appliances on(especially kitchen appliances) remotely, I can only say that people who seriously think it will happen must be smoking crack.
Anyways nobody can say for sure what the future will be like. Take the movie 'Omega Man' for example. I saw some of the weirdest lighting fixtures in that movie because people thought they were actually going to look something like that in the future.
Ultimately I think technology involving networked appliances will revolve more around practicality than hype.
I apologize for any grammar or spelling errors I may have made.
Even if Apex decides not to manufacture any more Apex 600As, you can probably always find one on E-bay. A quick search told me that 44 are currently for sale, some of em are even saying they'll include the instructions to access the hidden menu. LOL

theme."org adds palm" say the part in quotes really fast. at least the guys at slashdot have a sense of humor with THIER subliminal messages.
I was under the impression that free speech was a good thing even if some people don't like what you're saying. It could just be me though....

Hotline Search Engine
It's called "The Snitch". I'm not sure exactly how it goes about indexing the hotline servers, but it works.
That considered, I still am not too fond of hotline. =]
