Rights are there to make sure that people have freedoms. The very idea of limits is part of the idea of rights. The basic idea is you should be free to do what you want to do with the limit that what you want to do doesn't do harm to others.

A certain segment of society has forgotten this. The most basic and important right is to live. Your rights STOP where you start interfering with others. If you don't want to vaccinate your kids you can do that, but maybe you shouldn't be allowed to send those kids to public school.

Personally, I think a lot of these people should find a desert island somewhere and live there. That way they can have all the unlimited freedoms they want.

bullshit. What you're suggesting is more anti-free market than what I suggested. What statements like this always forget that "free market" is assumed that the people involved are somewhat equal. It's not "free market" to allow one group of people to choose winners and losers. Not every small business is free to just pick up and leave, either.

This is why common carrier status should come in. Not providing good Internet to rural areas basically allows local providers to choose who wins and who loses when it comes to business. There are few businesses that can operate without good Internet connections now, and that number is sure to decrease.

This is the argument I don't hear enough about network neutrality. If everyone's one traffic isn't treated with some equality then we essentially let telco companies choose the winners and losers in a whole lot of businesses, not just Internet related businesses. If companies want monopoly protects they should be hit and hit hard when they refuse to treat rural or any other customers the same. Verizon shouldn't only be fined, the should lose their entire business in these areas.
