There is a lot of missing the point on this thread. This problem goes down to the core of the social and psychological problems and tradeoffs that happen in GUI and application design, web design, and any other system that is accessed by members of the general public.
Somewhere there is a manager yelling at a designer because "it's hard to use" because there were complaints from users that they "just put in there password" and "why should I do that again?" when they were making a series of purchases. So the designer incorporated a 30 minute time out or grace period to get around the whining. Sometimes there is no absolute sweet spot... there is going to be whining about the design either way. They probably should incorporate a variable (as someone else on this thread mentioned) so the user has control and Google can say that the user has the power to make a choice.
People are thinking this is deliberate by Google? Bah. Google isn't 100% non-evil, but I don't buy that. They still aren't doing their design in like Microsoft does, in their Marketing department.
If you only scan the 18-25 year old male from the Middle East, then the radical element will find a way to use the person that is not scanned. They'll use the 90-year-grandmother with or without her knowledge.
It's called *Open* Source for a reason. You or an agent you trust can download the code and look at it. If one is worried about nefariousness in the code you can actually look at it unlike Microsoft and closed source projects.
So if the purpose of this is to keep people from saying the code is bad because a guy from Russia worked on it they are promoting irrational behavior.
Since our purchased Congress is inherently incapable of understanding any project that doesn't conform to a corporate structure or corporate "profit at all costs" philosophy, it wouldn't be surprised if this is what happens. End the end no way to download source code from a US site.
Places like Istanbul, Turkey always quote people prices in USD. This doesn't mean their "unstable" currency is worthless, it's just their workaround. Same thing happens with Bitcoin.
Wikipedia: A pyramid scheme is an unsustainable business model that involves promising participants payment or services, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public.
1) Where is the "promise" of payment or services that never gets fulfilled? Find a block and you get paid (in Bitcoin, sorry... a claim that Bitcoin isn't "real" doesn't hold water here). 2) Where is the "enrollment" of other people in the scheme. I mine, I've never recruited anyone into a "scheme". 3) Bitcoins have value. As a group people have assigned value to them. The fact I can go to an exchange and get money based on a bitcoin proves that. Just because the product is digital doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
If you think it's a scam I can respect that, but write something that says why you think it is a scam. Don't come out and yell buzzwords like '"pyramid scheme" and "ponzi scheme" without justifying how it fits in to the accepted definition of the term.
CEOs are a cult of personality in modern society. It isn't about smarts, savvy, or any other jazz. It's a type of show business.
Go look at the "promotional photos" available for people like Carly Fiorina. She's not smart enough to run a hot dog stand, but boy can she take a good photograph. And the corporate worshipers eat it all up.
Corporations would not wink out of existence now if the government went away. They wouldn't care that they don't have any government charter... they would simply continue.
I've had people make this argument at me when I have claimed in the past, but we are heading toward corporate anarchy in the us. Basically a state were there are no laws (or no enforced laws) and corporations are free to do whatever they wan't, "legal" corporate charter depending on government or not.
Limiting how broadband can grow is monumentally stupid. This is a great way to make small towns unlivable and discourage business outside of established city centers where rents are cheaper and small companies can thrive.
One of major divisions in the country right now isn't liberals vs business, it's big business vs. small business. This is anti-small business to the max. All business requires good Internet these days, and bills like this just make sure that good service is in a limited area and at much to high of a price. Governmental initiative is part of the so-called "free market", like it or not.
How have people not noticed that we live in a society where EVERYTHING is a false dilemma. EVERY debate we have politically is a false choice.
The biggest one is this constant claptrap of socialism vs. capitalism. If you think that we should have a national health system immediately you have a backwards yokel yelling about socialism. The U.S. isn't pure capitalistic and never has.
Every debate is derailed because there is someone that can't think in a shade of gray. If you want to do something that a business doesn't like then you are anti-business. Conversely if you want to help a business then you're a capitalistic pig.
We really HAVE to get past this if our society is going to move forward. The answers are almost never at the ends of the spectrum.
startrek.com did a story yesterday that claimed that the Star Trek replicator wasn't far off because someone used a 3D printer to make a pizza.
The point is that people don't grok what a 3D printer is yet. If a 3D printer is creating a pizza it ISN'T creating the cheese biomatter, it's simply spraying cheese.
The early 21st century is starting to look like the early 20th century.

Journalism in the US, especially journalism about anything even slightly "technical," is total shit.
Well, you totally failed at this one.
If you only scan the 18-25 year old male from the Middle East, then the radical element will find a way to use the person that is not scanned. They'll use the 90-year-grandmother with or without her knowledge.
You fail at security.

Lobby Congress? Really?
That's part of the problem. The people with the most money always wins.

What if the check out server is in the Cayman Islands?
Pishaw. Vice Presidential corporate buddies get a free pass.

Typical anti-Bitcoin bullshit.

Fuck.. Satoshi Nakamoto is Prince of Space?
When Soros spends money on campaigns it's bad.
When Koch spends money on campaigns it's good.
Absolute bullshit.

Maybe it's an African or European pint.
Ask a King. They know such silly things...
This is absolute bullshit... at least it is now.

I wonder how many of the same people think that corporations getting off scott free after illegally foreclosing on homes is just okay dokey...

we don't have debates in the US these days. Debates imply that the discussion is fact based.
damn it! bracket kill

Ham: You're wrong (bible verse without context)
Nye: (scientific facts)
Ham: (something about the devil)
I would rather watch paint dry. That would be more informative, too.
You can already make an outline for the transcript.
Nye:
Ham: You're wrong!

Sorry.. there isn't going to be anything accomplished. You can't have a debate when there is no acknowledgment about facts.
"Inferno" is what I always think of when reading a geothermal story, too. One of the best serials featuring my favorite Doctor...

well, the world of "Repo: The Genetic Opera" at least won't happen.
