It sounds very melodramatic, but we really are heading towards the day when many of us are going to need to flee our own country. Those of us that have been free and open with out opinions, anyway.
That's a good bet. Plus they won't gauge it right and they'll leave off items that have important dual-usages... like a web browser, chat client, etc...
If DARPA is trying to mitigate the threat then this effort deserves support.
If they are looking a way to "shut it down" then they're being way naive. This is happening (among other reasons) because of Moore's Law and you aren't going to change it.
We've but a woefully inept government and bad leadership at all levels of society, so I really don't know which this proposal aims at.
I have never understood why listening to morons on CNBC, Fox Business, or anywhere else was any different from listening to some guy screaming on a street corner.
My personal experience seems to back up my belief that most of these "leaders" see techs as non-human robots, or, at best, "the other" in every equation.
I don't see techs as any bigger of a hole than any other person. Most people in executive positions seem to have a large amount of magical thinking in this area, though. Somehow the "analyst" is more human than the guy that is making sure the actual infrastructure is safe.
If you want your business data to be safe, treat your sysadmin like a human being. They are a key person whether you want to admit it or not.
I believe the recent move that makes Office accessible to Android (even if it is a cloud version and a wrapper) is very significant.
The Microsoft crew knows that Android will at least be a major contender for OS share and maybe even beat them. I think they are starting to get ready for a world where Windows isn't the automatic choice by the corporate zombie crowd and it will be just as viable to give your non-power users an Android-based desktop. They are smart enough to know that the possibility for that is there.
Give the graphic designers a mac. Give the business power users a Windows 7 PC. Give your secretary an Android Desktop. Give a geeky workers that need raw power a Linux box. Well get closer to giving everyone the correct tool for the correct job.
Freedom has become a nonsense word. It means whatever you want it to mean apparently. Might as well say shamalalalalala ding dong.
another thing to thank the knownothings for.
You are parroting someone here.
Methane dissipates faster than CO2. A matter of years.
Water vapor even quicker. Days or hours. The effect is much less.
This is a point brought up time after time and the reasoning its cared about less hasn't changed.
I am still trying to figure out was the *disadvantage* is (in terms of climate and environment) to less pollution.
I know some fat blowhard will make less money, but excuse me if that doesn't concern me much.
If they weren't a front for corporate oligarchy I would be inclined to listen. As they are they are just a group of useful idiots.
It amazes me how people can divorce corporate power and government power. They're almost the same thing.
We have no true libertarians in today's society.
We have people who would love to rule through corporate power. They want absolute freedom for corporate entities and no freedom for individuals.
Go look and Rand Paul's position. He's about as libertarian as Mussolini.
MPAA officially changed the definition of "stolen."
anyone that thinks that Obama is "left wing" is an idiot.
Middle-left is a stretcher.

Art Bell says it's fake. Why would I not believe him.
(this post itself is fake)
they'll make these audits illegal!
yeah...
That's a good bet. Plus they won't gauge it right and they'll leave off items that have important dual-usages... like a web browser, chat client, etc...
you know.. I really don't think this is a troll.

(and I haven't read TFA).

yeah, it won't be compatible with the roadway, it won't play nicely with other cars, and they'll figure out a way to make the windscreen blue.
And the tech support page online about it will say "non-Microsoft cars don't follow industry standards" and that's about it.
I for one welcome our automobile overlords.
I think this suit-wearing monkey isn't savvy enough to know that the REAL people protecting the data are the hated technical class.
You need 100 good sysadmins for every 007 to protect your data.
ouroboros.
but but but but.... the PRODUCTIVE class!

He is going to increase the work of each sysadmin by 10x... ->
Making what is perpetually an overworked position 10x worse ->
Making it not worth the stress for the amount of pay ->
Making every sysadmin in the NSA a ripe target for various bribes...
BRILLIANT!
The people in leadership positions in the USA (government and corporate) are all idiots.
I agree, and my daughter makes $1500 AT HOME. ****>>>CHECK IT OUT!!!****
