  1. Agree and Disagree on Cleaning up Thunder Bluff · · Score: 1

I played WoW for about a year. I must agree it is sad if you're getting called names and such 60 times an hour. You have to remember, as has been said several times I see, there are a LOT of early teens playing. Now, I did notice that going from a PVP to a Non-PVP server, the IQ seemed to increase dramatically. Which makes sense to me. Younger kids seem to forget how to act towards people when they're able to pretty much whipe out whole zones of the other faction, then run around trying to dual everyone in their own once the zone is clear of the opposition. The epenis/mighty pixel disease spreads quickly when world pvp gets hot for long periods of time, too.

As far as freedom of speech goes -- I had a guild for many months where I made it clear that we allow profanity in guild. We had rules and guidelines that we adhered to that kept guild chat fun and weeded out people who joined just to cuss nonstop. It turned into a well known starters guild, and a safe harbor for people's alts to guarantee their alt building would be fun rather than OMG PVP/RAIDS ALL DAY ALL DAY ALL DAY. Some GMs knew about it and thought it was a good idea seeing how it was governed and how everyone was kindly informed before they ever got into the guild. (a GM had joined it on an alt I guess, especially after hearing there was profanity allowed just because they were curious to see how it worked without people ever complaining. He had some great dirty jokes.) I'm all for IQ tests for joining guilds ;)

One addition I would like is an auto-ignore feature for non-guildies that blocks people who type u, r, y, etc. -grin-

  2. I had a cell phone. on Landline Holders Increasingly Older, More Affluent · · Score: 2, Interesting

I still use the actual physical cell phone as a PDA. I did not like paying $50 for something I only ever really used at home. I didn't like using it when driving and don't like people who do. I have a job where a cell phone isn't a good idea. I never road trip. And it got terrible reception where I lived. Why pay $50 for something that blows connectivity wise from where I live? I reverted to a $20 a month landline. I feel no need to go back to a cell.

  3. We already know they're insane. on RIAA Says CDs Should Cost More · · Score: 1

Does the RIAA seriously need to continue proving to the world that they are shitballs nuts? I mean, their whole big bad scary court cases are already highly entertaining. And in order to be sued by them for pirating it's seriously like winning the lottery if you look at the numbers. So who honestly cares? Especially with all of the claims they make with "losses" and "what should be." Bravo, RIAA, for invoking the "send the white coated men to my house" giggles yet again.

  4. Re:Beautiful system we have here. on Source Code Access Denied in Disputed Race · · Score: 1

yeah I thought about that after I posted it. I was thinking immediately of a lot of the bugs that are easily inserted and spread which just put your vote where the bug is instructed to. But yeah I remember a few videos demonstrating how easy it is to manually change numbers in results too. My fault.

  5. Re:Beautiful system we have here. on Source Code Access Denied in Disputed Race · · Score: 1

As much as I had time to. Heavy traffic locations online had posts about it, spread the word as much as I could. Wrote to the papers and called the news stations around here but nobody was interested. Not patriotic, after all.

  6. Beautiful system we have here. on Source Code Access Denied in Disputed Race · · Score: 2, Interesting

This is exactly why I didn't vote. I didn't want to use the electronic machines. All we had around here, all I had available was either electronic machines. They gave me the runaround for weeks concerning absentee ballots. I tried several times and just threw my hands up.

How I understand it, the only way the machines can put votes where malicious programs want (IF they're infected) is if someone votes. If I don't vote, my vote can't be misused. And I surely don't trust this technology, especially how fast and secretive it was implemented.

I could be wrong. I hope this isn't the *future of voting.

*less and less trust. less accountability and verifiability. easier to rig an election.

  7. Re:As an Artist Myself... on RIAA Wants Artist Royalties Lowered · · Score: 1

My band website is www.symphonyofnoise.com. I've had my music up for free from day one, and until recently albums for sale for those who want to show support and/or own a hard copy. That's how I'll be doing it to the day I'm done. The music industry is dying, and that's a good thing. The music industry is about pushing units, not music. Turn on MTV, it's about trying to appeal, not art for the most part. But the music itself is alive and well and thriving if you know where to look, and that is a beautiful thing.

  8. As an Artist Myself... on RIAA Wants Artist Royalties Lowered · · Score: 3, Insightful

This truly makes me furious. This is just one reason I've chosen to stay independent. Granted the only choices I've had were smaller labels like Grey Flat and Saddle Creek. This is truly a disgusting move by the RIAA. It's not bad enough they're making the publicity stunt lawsuits against perpetrators of free advertising (file downloaders), now they need to cut even more from their artists. Just like when the MPAA started their "want a backup copy? buy one." comments in press meetings, this makes me want to remember to "engage in piracy." Thank you, Capitalism. Thank you.

  9. But it's a RTS. on Army Game Proves U.S. Can't Lose · · Score: 1

I skimmed the comments several times and see no mention of this... Uhh. I've been playing Real Time Strategy games for years. Never once played one where any equipment failed, any guns jammed. Sure, it's a recruiting tool. So if they added it, sure they would be gambling lightly with old time RTS fans. Might even liven it up a bit. Maybe some RTS games I haven't played yet have that sort of thing, but none in what I've played. Sounds like yet another person making a mountain out of a mole hill.
