I think the real problem is people who run off to lawyers when they don't necessarily need them. I was fortunate enough to be able to make fair compromises with my ex-wife in regards to our kids and our stuff without the "services" of an attorney.
I think you misunderstood. I'm not claiming drivers are necessary, just that the Microsoft experience has been horrible, in that it didn't work right out of the box. The mouse DIDN'T work properly, so I installed the bundled software. I HAD to do this in hopes that it would improve the tracking and enable the scroll wheel. It didn't really help, and only conflicts with my system mouse settings. Now I can't remove the MS stuff from my system settings either. Maybe "drivers" was the wrong term. All I know is that it soured my experience so greatly I will never use another MS mouse again.
Wow. That is a horrible web site. I mean...just...wow. You actually think that comic strip is funny? Wow. That comic strip is about 5-times as douchy as the Mac guy it's trying to make fun of.
You're not redirecting us to the story about the hacked Mac where the guy built some code on his website and pointed the Mac to the malicious code HE BUILT WEEKS BEFORE THE CONTEST are you? Oh wait. Right, you are. And the OTHER guy's the shill?
But it DOESN'T fly in the face of the "it just works" logic. They are saying you don't have to do anything out of the box, which is the definition of "it just works".
Also, I have no idea why your well constructed post is -1 Troll and the lazy troll you are replying to is +5 Funny.
Thanks. But are you using Mac OSX, or a WindowsPC? Do you have other device drivers already installed that could be conflicting? Are you using the wireless version? I've got ANOTHER Microsoft mouse that works just fine (and didn't even come with the crappy system software install that this one did). Just because YOUR mouse works fine, doesn't mean this one isn't a steamy pile of dung that has clogged up my system with useless system software.
Well the Microsoft mouse features didn't work until I installed the Microsoft mouse stuff (I assumed driver was in there as well) that came with it. The scroll wheel and button mapping was not possible without the software (stupid, I know, but not my fault). The other thing was that the default speed was way out of whack, and I'm not able to adjust it without the MS software. The system mouse settings can be changed, but wihtout the MS stuff installed, the speed and accuracy are really awful. My Logitech, Dell, and Kensington mice have no such limitations and work right out of the box, as you stated.
I'm not sure, but since it is a wireless mouse, it may have needed something for the USB thingy too. In any case, this is the only third party mouse I've ever used that didn't work out of the box without the software/driver install. To make matters worse, I can't get rid of the system stuff now, even though I no longer use that mouse, and it conflicts with my other 3rd party mice settings. (and no help from the MS documentation either).
Your attack is worse, because it isn't true. I'm an Instructional Designer and have nothing to do with public education. In fact, I despise teacher unions. When I worked in administration, I actually grew to dislike the teachers themselves (ineptitude and laziness are a bad combination). I'm hardly an NEA shill. Otherwise, yes, you are right. I think homeschoolers are nut jobs, but that has very little to do with this conversation.
I'm not referring to any democracy. I'm stating that being a member of the "worst" education system of the free democracies of the world is not worse than being a member of the education system of the Third World.
There's no arguing your figures, but I will argue that those figures DO NOT "overwhelmingly demonstrate that these administrators are overpaid". All it demonstrates is that 51% of the budget goes to pay administration. The rest is your editorial comment about how much administrators make, which isn't very persuasive.
You Get Out Of It What You Put Into It." (tm) It's why there are still some idiots coming out of private schools, and some really smart kids coming out of a big-city public school.
Exactly my sentiments. Pretty much all schools have the basic structure in place to teach kids. It is what kids (and parents) make of the structure that is put in place for them that matters the most.
Hmmm...I can honestly say I've never seen a public school teacher approach anything anywhere near six figures salary. $50k is a LOT for a public school teacher. Even the Department of Defense teachers who work overseas don't get 6-figures, even though they usually get some sort of housing allowance too. The most I saw a DoD teacher make in the UK was about $65k, and he had over 30 years experience.
Socialism might be considered a bad word here because I don't want to give the next guy 1000 Euros for health care when he goes to the doctor 35 times a year, and I go maybe once every 5 years (for anti-biotics). It goes against the basic premise of individualism, which is very strong here. I lived in Germany, paid just as much for "Socialized Medicine" that I do here with my private insurance, and got worse service for my efforts. I lived in the UK, and didn't pay anything, but was also never allowed to see a doctor unless I were near death. Each system benefits different social strata--the US system benefits mine the most, therefore I prefer it. If I were poor, I'd probably prefer a different one.

They ship with poor quality ear phones that are definitely causing hearing damage
That's a short-sighted conclusion. The quality of the ear buds have nothing to do with hearing damage.
It means, "I'm the typical slashdot hack who isn't nearly as clever as I think, so I'll just post some stupid meme to sound intelligent".
$3 HDMI cables at amazon.com. Best $3 I ever spent! For the going price at Best Buy you can buy 30 of the no-name brand.
Most woman evil enough to commit serial adultery...
So you knew my ex-wife too, eh?
It was already covered in The Paper Chase...oh wait, I'm giving away my age again.

The only "bad" lawyers (a) work for corporations or (b) are suing you.
or (c), advertise heavily on tv, asking if you've been injured in an accident.

Who the hell measures their penis in milliliters?
All of Europe (minus the UK)?

Bad prescedant? So... how bad were the budget cuts in *your* school?
Worse yet--he went to a private school!
Also, it is clear that having public education does not prevent places from turning into trailer parks.
Nor did I infer that. I did SAY, however, that NOT having public education certainly will.
Just because people want to have public education doesn't mean that they want to flush money down the drain for a crappy run service.
A poorly run, free public education system is better than no free public education at all.

If you don't want to pay for a school through taxes, the answer is easy. Rent.
