    Given it's an unlicensed, unapproved and illegal device, the guy jamming the signal may not even know the peace maker from the guy next to him may have the desired consequences.

    Causing an interesting loop: The jammer causes injuries in someone else, the lovely jerk using the jammer may react quickly to allow 911 calls, without even knowing he caused the issue for buying noisy unlicensed electronic devices.

    I don't know about peace makers, but think about any health support device for that matter, or worse, activating the !@# device in a hospital.

    I agree, and I'd use them in every emergency, because there's nothing worse than gossip and people spreading bad news!
    sarcasm aside, who am I to analyze and judge others without any insight of their situations? And who's going to rule me out because they think I'm being rude?

    And if not legally, let them know that false claims will cause them at least 1 year of not able to claim. If another comes up.. 2 years, 4 years. And so on. There should be a mechanism to avoid those takedown bombs.

    Dear Slashdot,

    Don't you hate mozilla? I love the number 7, I had been waiting all my life for the moment firefox got to 3.7, and they suddenly skip it and right to 4. Then Firefox 7 just passes like a blow of wind.

    It's very sad indeed. Furthermore, after release 12, they plan to discontinue support for win2000 and winXP SP1. What am I supposed to do? Upgrade my OS as well!?

    My life has come to an end, someone needs to end this nonsense!!
    Oh the humanity!!

    How is this modded insightful? They are not lying. Not about features, not about enhancements and certainly not about miracles performed by a revolutionary web browser. The only thing they did was to change their numbering system. Something that for many /. people have other implications due to a number paradigm.

    The old one doesn't help with popular adoption which is what people in /. don't understand. Having very low numbers can be perceived as a staled product, a slow moving one or a really new one. People wants to be reassured they use a product is being worked on not just 'patched'.


    AS someone answer already.... it's a web browser, no life is expected to depend on it.... yet.

    What needs to be done is educating that correlation is not causation and that cause and effect are different.

    "You're thin because you exercise and you are healthy therefore attractive" is way different from just "you are thin therefore attractive".

    The main problem in the youth, is that they think they need to be thin to be attractive, and leave out the healthy out of the equation, because eating well and exercising is more trouble and you can cheat by just falling into eating disorders.

    I agree with no photoshopping, because it shows figures that are clearly impossible to attain. But, I'm guessing you should ban also cosmetics, and light effects, etc.... and that may just cross the line from photography perspective... so it will be hard to enforce or easily "bypassed".

    Perhaps I didn't explain myself well, but is you get to characterize you sensor well enough, you can design better algorithms for that "sub sampling", from within the device. Not sure if that's what you meant, but it's closer to what I meant.

    Ironically, they're going to be investigated because they're supposedly trying to offset the traffic load from heavy consuming adds to the developers instead of the customers.

    While I see this may end up in double dipping and charging everyone twice "by mistake". It's weird they don't want to investigate ATT because of their caps and irrational plans (as most of the other carriers), but because they will be charging app development companies for abusing data from users that probably don't expect it.

    3. A fairly good quality digital zoom that can crop 41MP to 4.1MP to avoid more complex optical zoom mechanisms.

    While optics become a limitation, the sensor size is larger in size not just resolution (thus better aperture and less noise).

    But I don't think you can have it all on your cell (I wished a F/1.4 11mm-5000mm lens but that would be kind of bulky - if possible).

    To me, the news come down to
    1. The bandwidth of the sensor to pull all that data out in a "fair experience" for the user
    1.b. The embedded processing capabilities (DSP, etc)

    2. The capability of analyzing a 41 megapixel image, with fairly low noise and try to interpolate to obtain very good results on night shots using a cellphone.

    Well, mine too, but that may be because I have my email filtered so only e-mails from people in my contact list should reach me.

    Not too long ago however, spammers managed to send me e-mails from me, and all of them got through. I haven't seen those in a while.

    Not a bad idea for the 300k farmers to send it back with a note: "Here's the product of your seeds back, we don't want to be sued for copyright as well".

    I see you're trying to make a point in a ridiculous way.

    The more a device reaches consumers, the easier it needs to become. And you almost had a point until you talked about the electricity.

    See, not too long ago, a refrigerator required more maintenance than what not. Now, you just open and close the door. The freezer doesn't pile with ice, and you get water and ice right to your glass. That doesn't imply that you don't have to read the manual on how to install it, but operation is quite smooth and could be better if the fridge knew what I wanted and even interfaced with the rest of the kitchen to make my meal.

    But yes, it uses electricity and water, go figure.

    The problem with Top Gear, is that they are expecting that all the development goes to more powerful engines instead of energy efficient solutions, if they looked at performance from many other perspectives (such as capacity of transporting load per joule or whatever you imagine) then they'll realize that there's market for this stuff.

    Seriously, Who wanted a 30G harddrive on an iPod? That seemed overkill for a mobile application. I can also think that if you want to save on gas, you can modify your bike, but there's this group of lazy [/sarcasm] people that don't want to sweat to get to their jobs.

    There's market for everything, it doesn't necessarily need to match your needs.

    I guess you're spot on, on the trick. They seem to license for selling and so they can pick whatever it's appropriate for their benefit. Still, wouldn't that mean that whatever Apple does "selling" is not allowed because they licensed it? So what does the end user is buying?

    I really don't know what Best Buy does anymore. They don't carry 13.3 inch laptops unless is Apple. They seem to think that anyone walking into the store want's to buy "what they have" and not "what people needs". I've come a couple of times, and whenever I found the price is right, I buy it. I've bought many hard drives that way.

    The same is going to happen with Target, if they keep bringing the stuff that no one needs at a price that doesn't contribute. Many patient people will go around and look for specs, and buy whatever works better for them. Unless they're still thinking in having the impatient 15yo that wants everything instantly, others are willing to wait, check reviews, and prices.

    Which takes you to another advantage of online stores (and the reason I use my phone while in the store), reviews! You can check if the thing you have in front of you is just crap.
