What MMOs really need, IMHO, is unrestricted PvP. You want an evolving storyline? Complex politics? bingo. Plus, its all real time. None of this is scripted out by some clueless writing team. Thats what MMOs should be. Not just item hunts. Feel free to flame away.
Most MMO reqs these days are pretty low compared to other games. Maybe they figure they can get enough performance w/ newer hardware. Plus, the portability factor is near 100%. IMHO, that alone makes it worth a shot.
those might just be initial images w/ out the real textures applied. From the looks of it, its either that or their art department needs to be strung up.
"... can this be the spearhead of code-injection, where the main application can be tainted?"
No "can" about it. Thats exactly what this is. If the evil empire(M$) can inject their proprietary code into linux, they can destroy it from the inside out. Its one of the oldest tricks in the book(re: "The Trojan Horse"). Read the Illiad and tell me there aren't some interesting parallels. M$ sends what appears to be an offer of peace. Novell takes it for what it appears to be, lets it into their code, spreads it to other distros via FOSS input, and BOOM!, out pops M$ and their lawyers, destroying us all from the inside out. Linux, and the whole FOSS movement, crumbles from within.
When the apocalypse comes, don't say I didn't warn you.
so what does this mean? how about we conduct surveillance on anyone this program comes up with. you know, tap their phones, read their email, impound their hdds, etc. maybe make them wear homing devices so we know where they are @ all times. we could even shape them like little six pointed stars. i mean, they're dangerous, right?
or how about we use similar programs to prevent people who might drive unsafely from getting drivers licenses? or sterilize potential rapists? i think you see where im going w/ this.
the bottom line is that this program could be very useful in conjunction w/ traditional police practices if used responsibly and w/ restraint . But how often do police agencies operate under these conditions? If you're really curious, just ask Rodney King.

simple. this is exactly what M$ wants. if the linux/open source community is divided up like that, it may well destroy everything this community has worked for over the years. thats all this is is an attempt to divide and conquer. open source and distributed development is completely antithetical to everything M$ is. They see linux as a threat to them. if we want linux to be more than just a h4x0r toy, we need to create a user friendly os w/ good software support. now with the cult of mac making a comeback, M$ is starting to realize fighting a war on 2 fronts is not a good idea. so they are attempting to remove linux from the picture by destroying the GPL and everything it stands for. windows is a lumbering behemoth w/ an unstable foundation full of security holes. as linux users, now is the time to unite and stop this abortion of an os once and for all.

Linux users rejoice.

"I wonder what the legal agreements between Microsoft and Novell/SCO look like?"
Probably written in blood on human skin, most likely in Visual Basic(the language of the devil).
