If that was what he was arguing that would be fine. Instead makes stupid comments about how it prevents him playing crap and is forcing him to change platforms. Vista DOES NOT force anyone to use DRM, it doesn't take your non drm'ed content and suddenly magically add DRM to it, it does not prevent ANY of your existing or any new non DRM'ed content from working exactly as it works now. The ONLY thing Vista does is to ALSO allow you to play DRM content. Hence it is FUD, FUD is Fear, uncertainty and Doubt. This article relies on very little facts and pushes FUD with nothing to back it up.
This article was poorly researched FUD the first time it appeared on/. last week. Editors if your gonna dupe something, At least make it something worth reading.
So what your saying is remove a buggy crappy piece of software and put in a bloated slow buggy piece of software. hmmmmmm I can see your thinking here. Users will be so pissed off and frustrated with OO that they will no longer open documents as it will be simply to frustrating.
Seriously though dude this exploit crashes OO too. OO is not a solution just more of a problem.
games development is incredibly expensive, Apple don't have the gamers mindshare or developers for it. Why would nintendo even consider Apple, they bring nothing to the table, there hardware is to expensive, they have no gaming experience, there OS is completely incompatible with the nintendo stock of games. I don't like either company, but this would just be self destruction for nintendo if they did this for no good reason, why partner with a loser when your winning?
"Well, that's certainly not true of some of Microsoft's other offerings, so why would I automatically expect that from the.net team"
perhaps because you tried to claim you do.NET development, either you are an extremely poor developer that knows very little about your dev environment or a liar? you can choose whichever is more appropriate.
ahhhhh you do realise MS also publish checksums on ALL there ISO builds too. So you think someone smart enough to check a linux ISO checksum is too dumb to do the same for an MS one?
wow I have never bothered to post on slashdot before but this post being modded as insightfull for lies, inaccuracies and well total ignorant bullshit persauded me to make my first post.
"Vista's *six* SKU's are sold in various states of disabledness. For example, if you want to use a DVD burner, you must upgrade. Hmmm,.no matter the version of XP you could use a DVD burner... That's just one of many restrictions."
this is just plain misrepresenting the truth, the lower end versions of Vista simply don't include burner software by default, you are free to use your own and burners will work and DO work just fine.
Let's move to your clearly uninformed question: "Is there some magic mechanism which disables your ability to play unencrypted content?"
Why, yes there is! The latest WMP phones home to MS when you play a song and catalogs your content. When the inevitable OS reinstall happens and you attempt to play the same songs you get some bad news. It seems it's okay to play the music on that "other" OS install, but not this one. You agree to this when you click-through licenses. Here's a link to a guy that experienced it.
well that is just plain ignorant Bullshit. WMP phone home is OPTIONAL and OFF by default. not only that you DO NOT have to add licenses to your unencrypted content. You can optionally do this but it is not required or forced on you.
now then I use both vista and linux at home, and for gods sake I hope ignorant people like yourself stay away from OSS as you are the type that will likely spoil it for everyone with your FUD.
