    You are an idiot!

I'm not sure how this off topic rant got started, but I'm an eagle scout too. And banning fags from BSA is great idea. There is no reason to let potential sex offenders (which is completely profiling, but they are FUCKED in the head!) near young impressionable boys.

  3. The Real problem with School networks on The Joys of School And "Website Protection" · · Score: 1

The problem that I've personally seen is that someone comes in and sets up the network and then a teacher who has seen a computer once in their life, maybe when they were in college becomes the "technology" expert at a school. Which is fine to deal with small problems. But things such as real security. Things like not making root passwords the high schools name or some such crap are overlooked.

Then a kid with a clue comes in and wants to look around, he trys a couple of passwords and he's got root. Well he dosen't do anything that time but tells a couple of friends and then they decide that they also seen a computer once before in their life, so they go on AOL and find something stupid to do to the network, like deface the school website. Well they login a fuck it up and don't tell anyone.

Then back comes our kid who actually is interested in learning something. He sits down logs in and a couple of principles walk up behind him with the schools "technology expert" and proceed to expell the wrong student for the wrong reasons, because A) They don't know it wasn't him. B) Think the server can never be fixed. C) Are scared that he may be an alien and will suck out there brians if he gets enough computing power. D) Fucking morons and this kid should be in a networking class, so that he can lock his stupid friends out of the network.

Anyway, High School is bullshit and we shouldn't have laws about students vs. the man in school. We should just have more secure networks.

    That's my .02 cents.

  5. Gnutella Sucks! Napster Rules! on Why Offshore Napster Won't Work · · Score: 1

I hate to sound so juvenile, but when it comes to file sharing gnutella is not the awnser. It is horrible for sharing mp3z, although the porn is plentiful.

There may not be an immediate solution to this problem. However, OpenNap could be run by individuals who believe in Civil Disobediance, the one problem I see is keeping them all connected so that the user base would be in the thousands rather than tens or hundreds.

  6. Re:counterproductive on French Hackers Break SDMI · · Score: 1

Well, I totally agree with that, but my question is what can be done to protect the artists? Can they only charge for live performances? I'm not sure that is the best or only way for artists to make a living.

I think what they are attempting is to change the way this kind of thing is handled in business. They have finally realized that now that mp3 is out there it's here to stay. And they want a piece of the action.

So I guess what I really want to know is, what is to come of the recording industry? And digital music formats?

Dosen't this just prove that hackers are eventually going to be able to do what they want anyway? Maybe they should just save us the trouble and Open Source EVERYTHING!

  8. Re:They were spying on Bob Young! on Antitrust · · Score: 1

I agree about movies like this not becoming blockbusters, but it could have been. I think you must agree that the plot was pretty weak. And that every 10 seconds Teddy was spouting off some nonsense about everything should be Open Source. I doubt most of the movie going public had any idea what he was talking about it.

Basically this movie was a good idea, that was executed poorly. We can only hope they will do better next time.

  9. Waste of Time? on Digital Doodling · · Score: 3

Would this really be that helpful?

I usually find that it's much easier to take notes on paper, so that if I screw up I can easily erase it or move on.

With this you wouldn't have the ability to scroll as you take notes, and unless it interprets your handwriting into text, what good would it be?

Or is all digital always better to some of you?

Castration would be a fun way to start the process or maybe that would just be enough redemption!
