Well, see, in countries where there's decent privacy laws, it's illegal to take a picture of somebody where that person is the subject of the photo, and then to publish that photo without their permission.
Really? Please name such a country and the law that makes this illegal.
The only thing I can think of is something like the EU data protection directives, and they make it clear that this is for interactions between a person and an organisation. There is no law anywhere that I can think of that stops me taking pictures of my friends at a party and publishing those. Good taste and restraint, sure, but law... not so much.
It's like that in the UK and South Africa too. IP clauses are very vaguely worded so the company can really claim any IP that you create, even in some cases after you leave them.
They get away with it as a rule because they have a bigger legal budget than you.
Please provide me with an alternative to Time Machine for Linux. All it needs to have is the following: 1. One click configuration 2. One click non-scheduled backup performance 3. Simple to navigate restore interface to find the correct point in time I want to restore from 4. Simple to configure schedule that copes with the disk not being there when a backup is scheduled without complaining
I'm not being sarky here - I love Time Machine on my mac, but I'm still using rsync for my home server, and I'd like to move away from that to something more intuitive both to use and to setup / manage.
I think the key difference in the US is that you can get a divorce in a reasonable amount of time, so you're expected to keep it in your pants for that time. Because you can end up having to wait half a decade just to start proceedings here, I think it's viewed differently. The separation is the point at which you decided the relationship was over.
Having said that, even though you're separated and moving on with your life, it's not hard for the other party to claim that this was your plan all along and that you were with that person before.
I'm really not making shit up, but feel free to cite statutes to show otherwise.
In the UK (as I originally made clear!), you have to be separated for 2 years if neither party contests the divorce or 5 years if either of the two parties wishes to contest it. That means if you want a divorce and your other half doesn't, they can force your marriage to continue for another 5 years. Oh, and that's just the separation requirement before you can file. Once you've actually filed, things can then start to get messy and drag out.
As for putting your life on hold for that time, that's subjective. But I was responding to a quote that advised people going through a divorce not to touch / look at another woman while the process is ongoing. That would mean not starting another relationship for half a decade if either party is contesting the divorce. I know lots of perfectly happy couples where one of the other (or in one case, both) are happily living together and starting their new life while still married to someone else - that's because they've still got three years on the clock before they can file for divorce. If they followed the advice of not looking at another MOTOS while going through the divorce, they never would have met and their lives would have been substantially less full.
I see a lot of talk here about how you need a model release to use an image of a person. Just to be clear, that's mainly a US thing, and in the Free World, this is not required. If you are in a public place or can be photographed from a public place (with some limits) then I can make a copyright image of you that I control distribution of. I do not need a model release for such an activity.
I don't know why people get so worked up about things like this, when it's so easy to fix. I've never had a problem with _anyone_ stealing any of my work.
Just be crap and you don't have to worry any more:)
Good luck getting hold of someone at Microsoft who cares (their xbox side of things refuses +). TomTom _used_ to accept + accounts, then changed it and now accounts with purchases attached can't login until they get TomTom to manually verify them and change them to a new mail address. My O2 (cellular provider) bill goes to o2.are.dumbshits @ a domain because they also stopped refusing +.
You have _no chance_ of getting someone like that change and it's not really worth the effort.
I don't think you've ever worked in PR - that's not how it works. Half the job of advertising and PR is to get people to feel a connection to things. You do that by using people, not business pages.
Try promoting an event (and I mean a paid for event, not your birthday) today without twitter and facebook. It's still possible, but it's much harder to do and you can reach a much larger audience by using these tools. A larger audience means more customers.
Yep... Just like all of those poor pot-using hippies from the 60s. They had to wait until the old guard passed on to have their happy legalised. Now it's all roses and no-one ever gets arrested for using pot, because the generation who really made pot part of their lives are in power.
I'm not sure if you've been following the Wikileaks and Julian Assange stories on here, but many, many 'geeks' that post here are incapable of viewing this situation with an unbiased eye. And this is an important political situation.
Why do you think your Kindle or iPad can bring down the plane during take off or landing, but not while cruising? Simples - it can't.
The main issue is that most accidents happen at takeoff or landing, and the faster people react and do the right thing, the more lives saved. Taking stuff that can fly around the cabin away from people and putting it in the seatback pocket reduces the risk of a Kindle putting someone's eye out if it flies across the cabin later. Forcing you out of your earbuds (no listening to music) means that they have a better chance of getting your attention if something goes wrong.
I still carry a paperback along with my PRS-505 ereader when traveling specifically because of this - I hate sitting around bored for 30 minutes, and like having something to read. I'm never going to win my fight to be allowed to use my ereader, so I take paper.
You do know the difference between this and an IPO, right? Part of the clue is in the P of that... Initial PUBLIC Offering. Don't worry - you'll be able to buy if / when that happens. This isn't a public offering, so they are free to restrict who can buy.

I was referring to this, by sirambrose further up :
Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen after the movie wrapped up the story line and killed off major characters.
See - no all in there.
To be fair, the GP said 'major characters' not 'all the...'
Demon rabbits scare me ! But on to the reply :D

2 years if uncontested. 5 years if the other party contests anything.
Psycho Vengeful Bitches(tm) tend to contest these things.
"If I have 5 years, I'm sure I'll get him to forgive me and come back..."
That's a great idea and good advice, but it takes 5 years to get a divorce in the UK. That's putting your life on hold for half a decade.

Who would have thought that some of their business partners sell viagra though...

Vmware definitely give out addresses.

Just out of curiosity, what is it that you can and need to do as a programmer on Linux that you can't do on a Mac?

Have you ever been to Egypt ? McDonalds is everywhere in the populated areas there!

Oh, wait... no... shit!
To be fair, she must share _some_ of the blame for this. If she can see Russia from her house, why didn't she spot these people?
Or _did_ she spot them, and she just let them go? In which case, is she a filthy sympathiser, or is she trying to justify more defence spending.
ah, screw it... I can't even do this shit with a straight face any more :)

The benefits and vacation are only really a problem in the USA. In the civilised world, we start a job with benefits, vacation and pay :)
