"and a dozen Blu-Ray movies" DING DING DING we have a winner! This is the reason why Sony has to do what ever it takes to get the PS3 into peoples homes. Even if the user's don't buy a lot of blu-ray movies they probably won't bother to buy a HDDVD player and that means they wont be buying any HDDVD movies. The sooner one of the next-gen DVD formats can kill the other one the better and Sony's going to be in a world of hurt if they lose THAT battle.

If current voting trends are any indication, then most people wouldn't bother to vote unless it was on an issue that mattered to them. I think that's a good thing. An uninformed vote is worse than no vote at all.

That common age should be when a person can obtain a drivers license also. If America had something like this it would clearly distenguish between Adult and Child. However, I don't care much what age is actually picked, 16, 18, 21, 25, whatever. It'd probably be 18 though that way the military could still grab people right out of high school.

You can't do this. The constitution was written with the idea that it (along with all the other laws) could be changed. If the constitution is changed the courts can't though the change out as unconstitutional. What I think we need is to draft a modern constitution that takes into account everything that's happened since the current one. (ammendments, etc) That way we could, as a people, decide how to handle issues like copyright, taxes, etc. Hell why we're at it, why even have a Congress, why not make it one vote per citizen (like the democracy of ancient Greece) That would get rid of a ton of corruption, is totally possible to do with current technology (ie the Internet), and if there is an issue that is put to a vote it would probably be left up to only those parties interested enough to bother voting on it.

POSSIBLY to that point, possibly still at a profit (400 million is the upper limit though) At the very least they should stop minting cents and nickels using the current formula. Even if that means temporarily stoping the minting of cents and nickels altogether.

  9. why doesn't the government issue a recall on Melting Coins Now Illegal In the U.S. · · Score: 1

Seriously, if you can pull a 2 cents per nickel profit by selling it as materials then why doesn't the government recall the current nickels (replace them with something cheaper to make) then melt them down 20,000,000,000 nickels X $0.02 cents profit per coin = $400,000,000 (minus of course the cost of the recall and the costs of converting the coins into raw materials)

  10. Why would they make more anyway? on Melting Coins Now Illegal In the U.S. · · Score: 3, Insightful

How hard is it to realize that if it costs your more than 1 cent (or 5 cents) to make something worth 1 cent (or 5 cents), then don't make it. Basic enconomics Duh, if the pennies and nickels are worth more as materials than they are as currency then we SHOULD melt them down and use those materials for some better purpose and find some cheaper material to make our coins.
