  1. OLD NEWS on Athlon Motherboards And Chipsets Under Linux · · Score: 1

This whole thing about incompatiblities is yesterdays news. The SuSE workaround was for version 6.0 or 6.1, I don't recall. The workaround was for a kernel problem having to do with MTRR support and has long since been fixed. The perceived hardware problems involve ATA66 support or the use of old ram which the newer motherboards seem to baulk at. This is hardly an Athlon only issue. I'm sure when the next round of Intel products are introduced, we should expect the same type of incompatibility horror stories. But what do you expect from untested, by the masses, technology? I'm running an Athlon 700 on a MS-6195 motherboard with SuSE 6.4 as my operating system. It's blindingly fast and stable. Quake3 and Unreal Tournament run without a hickup, I'm very, very happy with the Athlon.

  2. Save a tree, use a Pilot... on Palm Pilots: Tools or Toys? · · Score: 1

I don't know if I really need my pilot? But now I don't have all those yellow postits all over the place and I can actually find and update info much quicker. Gee, maybe I really do need my Pilot!

  3. Maybe a twisted moral? on Katz v Taco: Futurama · · Score: 1

The moral of the story was we should be free to choose what we do? Fry spends most of the show dodgeing the cops to prevent becoming a delivery boy. He wants more in life and doesn't want his fate determined for him. Then in the end, fate steps in and he ends up a cargo handler (delivery boy). Was the system right all along? But, WHOO HOO, it's on a spaceship so who cares! Funny stuff...

  4. Home taping of MP3's, Yeah that's it... on MP3s Causing Decline in CD Sales? · · Score: 1

So now it's MP3's that are destroying the music industry. The fact is that the suits are shoveling out the same old song (pun intended) and then wonder why no one is buying. Back when the cassette first came out as a new technology, the industry cried out for regulation to stop this threat to the God fearing, money making, legal owners of the intellectual rights to songs that would be stolen from the record companies and the artists. It was just too easy for someone to buy a record, then copy it to cassettes and pirate it off to everyone else. If these idiots don't figure a way to embrace the current technology (like the industry did with the cassette) , I hope it buries them...

  5. Never a DOJ around when you need one! on MS Responds to Rebate Day · · Score: 1

The whole refund/protest issue illustrates exactly what the DOJ should be investigating, in my opinion. It's these kind of business practices that are the real crime, not some stupid OS/browser integration. Just points out how ignorant the federal goverment is in tech issues.

Back to the subject, no Windows here to return either. But if I had a copy...
