There was also a very close clone of this game called "trek" written in C included in the BSD games package, so lots of UNIX/BSD/Linux users have this game on their boxes to this day. Of course it's not the same as playing it in ALL CAPS on an old Kaypro running MBASIC on CP/M, but close enough.
One very solid option is obviously the Free Software Foundation, that brought us the GNU project. You can be sure that they will put it to good use, although the results may not seem as visible, immediate, or essential. The funds will be used to pay their administrative costs, their salaried programmers, and whatever causes they adopt, or whatever. See their site.
Another option is something like Axel Boldt's Free Software Bazaar, although that concept has a few well-discussed problems of its own.
I hear from many people who identify themselves as Christians. When I think of Christianity, I think of a faith that at its core, promotes charity, tolerance, generosity, love and peace. Thats not what I see on Washington talk shows, where the so-called "Christian" agenda is often used to push for censorship, attack culture and technology, and force a certain kind of moral values on people who don't necessarily want them. Judaism and the Muslim Faith certainly do this as well, at times, but not nearly in so organized and vocal a way.
Ha! What planet are you from, Jon? Or maybe if you've never seen a Jew or a Muslim, they don't exist, right? Show me a nation that is Christian like the Pakistan, Myanmar, Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, etc. is Islamic. Show me a nation that is Christian like Israel is Jewish (though that is not as strong a case). There is none. This was a little different back in the heyday of the Roman Catholic church. But you are perfectly misinformed if you think that the abuse of Christianity is so much a greater problem than the abuse of Islam.
As a few others have expressed, in my mind there is no `legitimate' domain name `brokering'. I perceive virtually ALL domain brokering as squatting, extortion, or worse. There is never any legitimate service provided. You're not `securing' the domain, you're raising the price on it.
That in mind, the only ethical thing to do is not to renew the domain at all. Relinquish it. As you say it is your responsibility to get the highest price possible, you would probably lose your job. Therefore, while it is impossible to say what I would do as I am not you, but I would recommend that you should explain the situation and try to get out of being responsible for any domain name dealings the company might have.
`Business' and ethics are not always on the best of terms.
A big principle is that the most interesting, important, and/or valuable information will continually be archived, mirrored, posted, and generally circulated on the net and elsewhere. This doesn't help for personal records, of course.
But I think in general, most important data will always be recopied onto newer media before the old media decays. No "infopocalypse", though it makes a good buzzword. Link it to a magic date and you can start another media/marketing scam. Data decay is certainly an issue, but it is an ancient issue. And increased technology has only made it less and less of an issue. No longer are we at the point where in a thousand years there will only be a few scraps of manuscript surviving of someone's life, the real issue is preventing personal information from being published and publically archived for all posterity. I'll bet a lot of early USENETters aren't entirely happy about their early online days being publically archived for eternity. Well, actually, I know; I'm one of them!
That's right. Trojans exist. Virii doesn't, since "virii" is not a word.
THANK you!
"Those confused souls who write virii are tacitly positing the existence of the non-word virius, and declining it as though it were like filius. It's true that l/r are both linguals that sometimes get interchanged, and that f/v are just a change in voicing, but that's just reaching. Virii is still completely silly, so don't do that; otherwise, everyone will know you're just a blathering script kiddie."
"Blathering script kiddie." Even the cited article got it right. Sorry Hemos!

Not to mention a really cool robot.

Debian is certainly a worthy cause, as mentioned, but they don't take donations--rather, they relegate them to Software in the Public Interest.
The hardware idea is certainly a good one.
