Also the other trick was to borrow $100 (from Wu the Elder?) and leave and come back and repay him more than you owed. He payed better 'interest' than the bank but the money you had with him didn't count towards your score. I remember him having so much money of mine that I couldn't get it all back out. (you could only get back some figure like 999999 dollars but I was getting more interest than that everytime I left and came back.)
"Bad joss, Captain. 427,000 pirates are attacking."
The key was to wait for the 3rd 'warble' sound and then try to run. It worked more often than running at the first sign of pirates.
I loved that freakin game. (and Bolo and Hackers and Conan and especially Lode Runner) My//c is still in my parent's basement along will all my 5.25 diskettes with my Apple BASIC pgms. I need to get it out next time I'm home and see if it all still works.
Your first suggestion is the one that would be a lot of help. If I am at a 'foreign' computer without my bookmarks I have to use Yahoo to find PG. This is not so for every other site I frequent, which have URLs are are closely aligned with their names. Likewise when I tell someone about the site, I can't give them a URL but end up telling them to search Yahoo for it. They would be more likely to visit, if I could write it down for them. Change the URL immediately!!!
'The Matrix' had a very good plot, IMO. Omnipotent AI's, humans as batteries, struggle for freedom, etc, etc. But I agree, the action was awesome and I want more of it.
this is what i do also. it has the pleasant side effect of getting to name your 'worst' box 'uranus'. hehehe. my internet gateway box is an old crappy cyrix 166. i get enjoyment everytime i see the 'bockris connected to uranus' message.
I agree mostly. But in defense, it was written in 1984 on a manual typewriter. He was (still?) computer illiterate when wrote it. A pretty amazing feat when viewed in this light.
Any one notice the picture of the Earth Simulator at the top of the article.

except that 95% of the application software written for AS/400 is written in RPG not COBOL.

I always assumed "Pretender" was based on/ influenced by "The Shockwave Rider" by Brunner.
But you know what they say about assumptions. (-:
One decimal better and no 'trickery'.
How I wish I could enumerate pi easily
