America has the best public transport(ation) system in the world. As a matter of fact it's so advanced that you can go anywhere you want, anytime day or night, and in complete climate-controlled comfort and privacy.
Pedant point... the electors are chosen by state legislatures... it's just that all states have laws in which the electors vote for who the electorate says.
I like capitalism. I dislike globalism and "free" trade. But as long as workers are being sqeezed, then if Walmart sells goods for cheap then I consider them a good force, in general. If inhumane factors are involved somewhere, it is up to the victims to speak up at some point. I'm not sure Walmart is responsible for the actions of it's vendors.
Walmart makes it seem like you're saving more money than you are all the time. I once found a 39 dollar game at EB that Walmart was selling for 38 bucks. Like you said, I made up that much just in burning gas.
I will admit, all of these alternative energy proposals sound terrific (and I tend to be a republican). But the fact remains is that until you curb the power of NIMBYism, this will *never* get off the ground. You have no idea how emotion people get about putting something like that anywhere will make people.

Well supposedly we've been altering the climate from the get-go, starting with cavemen.

Yes but what if the light is blocked from entering the earth's atmosphere in the first place?
Interestingly enough, Union Pacific is the first railroad in the US to use remote control train technology at railyards (Canada National, one of the best railroads in the world, has been using it for about 10 years). People think that US doesn't have any rail system but the fact is that we probably have one of the best rail networks in the world, we just don't waste it on passengers.
No, liberals are idiots. The US has one of the best rail systems in the world, it's just that we use it more for freight than passengers which makes logical sense.
Thank you! Finally someone who posts on the issue of trains in America who gets it. If you read the American Association of Railroads website, you get a better perspective on America's vast and efficient rail network and why passenger rail seems to defy logic by not being better. America uses it's rail network (as well as Canada) more than any other nation on earth, it's just that it uses it for freight, which makes logical sense when you think about it. All Amtrak does is just get in the way of those freight trains and makes it harder for them to compete with trucking.
Well, eventually we'll just end up printing more money... the way prices are going, a little inflation couldn't hurt.

Article 2, Section 1 of the US constitution. This is, unless I"m reading it wrong or it was changed in a later amendment.
Wow... you REALLY don't understand economics do you?
Plus... do you really want that thing in your country? I sure as hell don't.
Do you really want that thing built in the US? I'd rather it was somewhere remote, personally.
France is one their, what, third republic? Their republic is less than 40 years old, ours is well over 200.
Well personally, I wouldn't want this thing in my country. Hell, I say put it in France... maybe under the eifel tower.
Do you really want that thing in your country? I sure as hell don't. Yes this is NIMBYism but this isn't a McDonald's we're building.

Well, around here grocery stores do just fine competing with Walmart so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Now you're on to something. Walmart is a symptom, NAFTA (and free trade in general) is the disease.
1.They're cheap!
I'm sold. Incidentally they do sell American products there (I bought one the other day).
Anything that lowers the price of goods makes it easier for everyone to afford them thus raising living standards.
You haven't posted here long, huh? ;)

Not as heavy as we subsidize Amtrak.
You're an idiot. The MTA in NYC has one of the highest riderships in the world. Try learning something before you post tripe on slashdot.
