This has been the holy grail of computing for a while now. Sorry, I would not put the champagne on ice. There will be more challenges in engineering this into a workable solution.
Yes, bundles are a problem for some people whose viewing tastes are eclectic. I am more upset about the quality of the programming. Many people's issue with TV is the lack of quality programming. This is exacerbated by the number of channels that dilutes the talent pool of producers and writers. Hence the number of reality shows and these really suck. My other gripe is the quality of the signal itself. In my area comcast is selling HD programming but delivering it at 1080i. I imagine this may be a bandwidth problem.
I agree that eventually we will get to a utility billing system. We are starting to see that now with many of the ISPs. I would like to know the assumptions around the think tanks projects.
Apple won't manufacture their own chips. That would be way too expensive, since they would not be able to spread the development cost as could an OEM supplier. This is just a dumb ass rumor.
