Hollywood are a fickle bunch anyway. They rarely take chances, and when one succeeds, they copy it for for years. How many movies have there been about the urban kid who no one believed in who was good at dancing? Flash and 30 second trailers sell more than substance.
Oh and Star Wars says nothing about the human condition? Are you kidding?
You shouldnt need a permit to have a rally. Having a rally on public property should mean you cant bar anyone from entering, saying what they want, or bring along any puppets. Having a rally in a private location should not prevent anyone from protesting said rally from the closest public property, provided they do not block entrances or traffic. See First Amendment. Dont like the First Amendment? Try to get it amended, lets not pretend it requires you get a permit and pay fees.
If game developers started moving towards OpenGL Microsoft might release DX10 for XP. They will do anything to prevent something else from gaining a foothold.
Can somebody tell me with a straight face that this is what capitalism is supposed to look like?
No, there should be competition. I should be able to start a company and start laying fiber if I want to. At this rate I wont have fiber coming in my house for 50 years. Hell why subsidize this industry just to have them abuse their monopoly. We could take that money and make a nation-wide fiber network. These companies are always complaining about how much their last round of upgrades cost. The big cost is digging stuff up, laying the lines. We could install 10 (or 100) times the fiber we need, just run more than one fiber at once, hook them up as needed. Do it once, do it right.
That's the law. If you are classified as an hourly worker you MUST take at least a 30 minute lunch break and have a 15 minute break for every 4 hours you work. Overtime is also regulated in a similar way.
True, but every job Ive ever had paid you for those 15 minute breaks. Including working as a temp at the US Postal Service.
The whole purpose of the VOLUNTARY rating system is because the first amendment prevents laws like this (rightfully so) Game companies voluntarily have their games rated because they fear a legal battle and stores like Walmart wont sell them otherwise. These politicians are just going after the "think of the Children vote" or they are fascists. Maybe both.
Dont they know its practically impossible to protect something like a academic paper. This kind of DRM is easily defeated, probably with just the print screen button, whats the point?
All they need to do now is start cracking down on dissent, intimidating, bringing false charges, etc, and we will be living in a real police state. Who said it couldn't happen here? Maybe next time I make a post like this it will be as an anonymous coward from a car parked in front of a starbucks.
The upgrade adviser requires.NET to download both.NET and the upgrade adviser is about 28 MB. Twice the size of a Windows 3.1 install just to scan your hardware and tell you if its up to spec.
This is how it should be. No company (or school) should give out anything just because they got a letter. A court order should be the only time they give anything up. Sadly this does not seem to be the case. It must be cheaper for them to just cave to demands than fight them. Customers just dont care.
They better come up with a none-infringing way to send calls from the internet to a phone line. Maybe a speaker a phone and some duct tape?

are they going to compete with Amazon? Doesn't Amazon have a patent on selling books online?

You already need $70,000 just to become a registrar, is making the requirements any higher going to help?
Have you read any of the laws Congress pases? None of them are clear. They are vague and selectively enforced.
Who actually watches 45 minute TV shows in a 3inch box on their monitor?

Maybe its not just me, maybe music is getting worse. Maybe Im getting old.

a Democratic Internet strategy company that does work for Barack Obama -- has now fired him as a result.
I guess someone who makes national news and reaches millions isnt something you want in your "Internet Strategy".
Good thing we gave them $200 Billion http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20060131/2021240_ F.shtml
Finally a Judge who understands the First Amendment. Now if we could just get "Inciting a Riot", and "Disturbing the Peace" laws struck down.

I thought the US was responsible for this? Which is it people.

Its made for the Department of Defense, it probably costs $5,000 a chip.

at least one major OEM would like to see improved Linux support but is afraid that the Windows support would then be at risk.
Hmm, could it be Dell?
Apple continued to claim that there were no vulnerabilities in Mac OS X
All systems have vulnerabilities, how can they say that with a straight face?

Guess war chalking is obsolete now.
So it costs $325,000 to drive a Prius 100,000 miles? This seems way to high.
