How can someone use your vote in a way you don't want them to if you authorize them to use your vote? Obviously no one is going to sell their vote on an issue that they find important. So, why not sell it? The person with the most money usually wins anyway... Besides, it's just the Presidential election. The Electoral College decides in the end anyway.
That said, I'm voting for Brown on the Libertarian ticket regardless of the ability to make a few bucks by voting for someone else.
Voters involved in the Voteauction.com program will vote by mail-in absentee ballot. The completed ballots will be mailed to voteauction.com, where they will be counted, verified and then sent to the appropriate election district. In exchange for voting for the chosen candidate and following the Voteauction.com procedure, the voters will receive an equal share of the winning bid for their state. Voteauction.com will not receive any money from the auction. The starting bid for each state is $100, with a minimum bid increase of $50.
Ok, there were 30 comments when I started that post, now I submit it and there are 130 and one just like it is already moderated up to +5... oh well. Just in case anyone was wondering about the redundancy... oops, I guess this ones off topic.;-)
Excerpts from the UMI® Dissertation Abstracts database are being used by Contentville, which, in turn, collects orders for full-text dissertations. Dissertation orders are fulfilled by UMI® Dissertations Publishing, whose mission is to expand scholarly communication and improve access to academic research. All Dissertation Publishing Agreements with authors remain in effect. Dissertation authors retain all rights to their dissertations. All sales will be tracked for royalty payments. All contracted royalties will be paid, per the agreement. The UMI program continues to expand access to research and maintain a permanent archive of scholarly works. Wider distribution of dissertation research is intended to support the international scholarly community.
It sounds like they may just be selling the packaging (ie Hardback, Softback, Unbound) like Red Hat sells the CD and manuals. I don't know about the legal status regarding the copyrights, but atleast they are "supposedly" paying any applicable royalties.
Obviously if the drug/research companies collect information they find useful, they aren't going to say, "Gee, this is neat info. Let's go directly into production without testing the data."
The same with SETI@home. If they get something that looks interesting they check into it- not alert the media that there are, in fact, little green men in the vicinity of Vega.
Not to mention any drug has to pass FDA inspection etc. before being put on the shelf. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.
Yes. Here we go again. Blame violent video games and violent movies for the violence in society. Unfortunately for these arguments, there seems to be no correlation between these and real physical violence. Take Japan for example- home of some of the most violent magazines and movies of our age. Now, look at there crime rate... hmmm, much lower than the United States. I would argue that having an acceptable release for negative emotions (called sublimation by the shrinks) actually decreases occurances of real physical violence. It just really pisses me off when I hear this same argument over and over again...

Nanotech anti-heart attack prevention Excuse me, but wouldn't it be better to have a heart attack prevention device?
No!!! It is imperative that we prevent anti-heart attacks! If one of those baby's came in contact with a real heart attack it could completely annihilate the person having a heart attack!
I wonder if Linus is going to go after linuxbabes.com They have the domain, but no page... same with linuxbabe.com If this isn't cybersquatting I don't know what is! (linuxsex.com is still available though...)

Sorry, but the creater of the GIF format (Bob something) pronounces it Jiff. Said so on the old dos program Compushow... So, it's a little off topic. Whole damn discussion's off topic anyway.
...never personally had problems with Windows / Linux dual boots I've been running Linux dual booted with some Microsoft OS since 1996 and I'd never had a problem until I tried to download and install Debian 2.2(potato). The installation bailed at the wrong time and any time I tried to boot (from HD or Win98 floppy) I would get an error during the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and it would tell me that the partition tables were screwed (paraphrase). I had to go into the BIOS settings and tell Set Primary Master to none to even boot off of the floppy... Guess I'll stick with the CD's from now on. Ordered Caldera, Mandrake, RedHat 6.1 and FreeBSD from cheapbytes 2 days ago. Wonder which one I should install first...

What do Libertarians really believe?

Why would you want to share files over their network for computers in your own home? Why don't you just buy an ethernet hub and share at 100Mb/s?

Now what is a homeless person going to do with a Heads Up Display? Surely, being homeless, they can't afford jets... ;-)
