A "good christian mother" drives her car into a lake and kills her children, including an infant.
Even better: A good Christian (Baptist) president lies about his affairs with women other than his wife and sexually harasses a potential employee, then covers all this up and escapes any censure whatsoever, especially from those most concerned about policing sexual harrassment.
Middle-aged day-trader shoots up an office center.
Even better: Middle-aged female lawyer in the highest Justice post in the land authorizes shooting and holocaust of Church in Texas.

Bad statistics. Lots more than half of marriages last if you take out those who are marrying for the second, third, fourth, or fifth time.
Decades of enslavement of an entire race in America.
You mean from 1776-1865? Or perhaps you're referring to those who are enslaved from January to June paying taxes?
Decades of spousal and child abuse in America.

Blow jobs in the white house by an intern, with a married president.
Who cares? Especially when that president unconstitutionally (and impeachably) authorizes the bombing of civilians (even Chinese ones) in numerous foreign countries like Serbia, Bosnia, Kosovo.
And it's the VIDEOGAMES that are causing moral panic?! Holy shit . . . Talk about blind
And what's even worse is a president-elect who admits to drinking and driving but won't admit to doing a line of coke, who signs bills that would have put him in prison for 10 years for his "youthful indiscretions." Not just blind, but horrifically hypocritical.
The reason this should not happen is that Florida state law doesn't allow for dividing the vote that way (although other states' laws do). You'd be changing the rules after the fact, hardly fair to anybody.
The problem is NOT that the 3c905B-TX isn't supported. It is. The problem IS that the 3c905B-TX isn't in the standard boot-off-the-floppy kernel, meaning that you can't then load the full distribution from an FTP server without compiling the 3c905B-TX into a new boot kernel, creating a new boot floppy, then installing via FTP.
I've not had very good success with LinuxPPC on my 8600/G3-350. I have had good success with Yellow Dog Linux, which also has the advantage of working on certain IBM PPC boxes (F50, 43P-150) should the need arise.
Yellow Dog is currently a "server" distribution, which means that it has limitations in the GUI area, but they're working on a more "consumer" distribution which may address the limitations I've found, which include limited number of colors (256 on my stock 8600 video) and a fairly limited set of accessory programs for doing things like burning CDs, etc.
Sorry. The P.J. quote is wrong. Here's what P.J. actually said: "When buying and selling things are controlled by legislation, the first things that get bought and sold are legislators."
As badly as we may need campaign finance reform to keep corporate money from polluting politics...
Katz! Get REAL! You know that the reason corporations are willing to bribe politicians is that it's just good business practice to get corporate welfare and get out of paying outrageous taxes.
"When buying and selling things is controlled by the legislature, the first things that get bought and sold are legislators." -- P.J. O'Rourke
We don't need the Incumbent Insurance type of campaign reform touted by the politicos. Instead we need Real Campaign Reform.
Compact Disc (CD) and Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) use single and dual magnetic layers, respectively, to store data in pits and grooves, similar to the way grooves store music on vinyl records.
Hmmm... So Wired thinks that CD and DVD are magnetic media? I thinks they've got a few more thinks coming.
You certainly can't eliminate taxes, they're unquestionably necessary.
Nowhere does Harry Browne say he's going to eliminate taxes. He says he's going to be able to eliminate the income tax when the federal government is reduced to its properly constitutional size. The reduction in government comes first. The elimination of the income tax is a result, not a cause.
Thus Dubya's "tax cut" is a mirage, just like the "tax cuts" of JFK and Reagan were a mirage, since instead of reducing government first, they merely fueled a gross increase in government size and intrusiveness. JFK's fueled the Vietnam War. Reagan's fueled the largest increase in government spending up until the Bush-Clinton years.
The president cannot enact tax legislation--only the legislature can do that.
True. But if a president consistently vetos legislation that spends tax money unconstitutionally, and makes that unconstitutionality crystal clear to the people of these United States, the legislature will eventually have to cave in and follow the Constitution. It may take a year or two, but it would happen.
How many seniors (that's your grandma and grandpa) would be on the street, dying because they don't have ANY money now to try and buy drugs. Who care about Drug Plans if you don't have ANY money?.
Please ask yourself the question: "How did these seniors and disadvantaged get into a situation where they 'don't have ANY money?'" You'll have to include yourself in at least one answer, since it's your grandma and grandpa who need your support. Why should you force some struggling family with four kids to support your grandma and grandpa? Do you have so little regard for them that you'd prefer to have the government go out with its guns in hand and stick up your neighbors for the money so that you can relax and forget about your ancestors? I hope not.
And as for the disadvantaged, wouldn't you rather that they be taken care of by voluntary charities which really have their best interests at heart (get off the charity and become productive on their own) rather than some government social worker whose biggest incentive is to have as big a client list as possible?
And furthermore, are you proud of having your taxes used to destroy the self-worth of most of the disadvantaged who stoop to taking forced charity from the government, and who thus stop trying to become independent because they come to believe they are incapable of independence?
If you think you can, I am shocked at your naivety.
Besides the fact that you seem incapable of spelling a word imported from the French, whatever happened to the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?" Have you given up on the possibility of getting rid of the "infrastructure (or cruft, whatever)" and now just lie down in the street and let the politicians run you over?
The only insanity that I see here is the one that gets covered by the definition: "Insanity is doing the same things over and over again even though you get the same bad result every time." I'm tired of insanely voting for the same old candidates from the Republican-Democrat party who consistently and continually increase the size, intrusiveness, and cost of government.
The only sane vote is for Harry Browne, who consistently and constitutionally guarantees that government size, cost and intrusiveness will shrink under his administration.

I quote Larry Wall:
"True greatness is measured by how much freedom you give to others, not by how much you can coerce others to do what you want. I remember praying a prayer when I was very young, not much more than a baby myself. ``God is great. God is good. Let us thank him for our food. Amen.'' Well, I'm here to say amen to that. God's greatness and goodness are measured by the fact that he gives us choices. He doesn't require us to thank him for our food. (In case you hadn't noticed.) God is not a Modernist. He doesn't view us as nails. God expects us to behave like carpenters. Indeed, he gave us a carpenter as an example." -- Larry Wall, creator of the Perl programming system.
Besides, defense is one of the constitutionally-allowed powers of the federal government, and Libertarians are all for an effective national defense (that protects the borders of this country, not those of any other).
And yes, I'd agree, if government made those computers, instead of just buying them from private companies, they'd still be the size of houses and would still cost billions.
Instead of three issues, I'll just name one that I disagree with the watermelon Greens on: using the guns of government to force a living (say, how about $50/hr) wage on all employees and employers in these United States. If you think $50.00/hr is "too much," then why is it too much? Wouldn't $100.00 an hour be even better? Or maybe even $1000.00 an hour? So what would you propose? $10.00? Well then, why not $10.50?
Just remember what Larry says about greatness and freedom, and you'll see that the only reasonable reaction to the Green candidate is "ralph."

I see nowhere in the Constitution that allows the federal government to have any say whatsoever about murder. The only crimes the federal government has jurisdiction over, according to the Constitution, are piracy, treason and counterfeitting.
Since you are being coy about this, let's be open. You believe that abortion is murder, as does Phillips. Since murder is not within the jurisdiction of the federales, there is no reason that Howard Phillips, in his role as presidential candidate, should be saying anything about federal involvment in forcing his moral position on an America filled with people who have different moral values.
If Phillips were actually for reducing government involvment in a woman's relationship with her doctor, I'd agree. But none of the information I've ever heard about the Constitution Party and its stand on abortion, or Howard Phillips' position on abortion, leads me to believe he is for less government on this issue, and many others related to his idiosyncratic moral stance.
So, sorry, I don't believe I mischaracterized Howard Phillips or his attitude toward reducing the size of government as it relates to Christian morality.

There's only one presidential candidate this election who has the cojones to use the F word. Libertarian Harry Browne is the only candidate who wants you to be Free of internet censorship, internet taxation and internet snooping by government. Dubya wants to use the force and violence of government to censor the internet and the entertainment industry. Goreby, who "invented the internet" is not adverse to taxing it, and hasn't come out against his own administration's "Carnivore." Nader, on the left hand, would like to nationalize the internet and put a government-financed internet appliance on every kitchen table, not to mention using the force and violence of government to boost the minimum wage to $50.00/hr. (and if you claim that's "too much" why is it too much?) Buchanan, of course, would ban the import of all Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese computer parts because they're "taking jobs from Americans." Haeglin wants you to meditate. Phillips wants to use the force and violence of government to prevent your wife/significant other from consulting with her doctor regarding her pregnancy.
Only Libertarian Harry Browne is asking the question, "Do you want smaller government?" Because if you vote for Bush, Gore, Buchanan, Haeglin, or Phillips, you'll get bigger government, more intrusive government, and more expensive government. None of them want government to "do less." All of them want government to "do more," and if you vote for them you'll be wasting your vote because when any one of them gets into office, they'll be making you less free. Only Harry Browne wants government to do less and make you more free.
I'm not throwing my vote away on people who have deluded themselves that using the force and violence of government against the American people is a good thing. Long ago, on CompuServe's Consumer Electronics forum, David Brin used to hold forth on the merits and demerits of high-end TV and stereo equipment. I followed his advice in that arena and have made many purchases that have stood the test of time.
I've read nearly every one of Brin's SF books, enjoying their scientific approach coupled with his humorous cynicism directed at politics.
But in this screed, I see Brin finally abandoning any hope for political change. This is cynical realism at its hopeless worst.

I worked with a Cromemco system that fits this description. S-100 based, as I recall. The UNIX was called Cromix, and was my first taste of that OS. It had a COBOL on it that wasn't too bad for the teaching purposes I put it to.
I'd heard that the only switch was going to be a hardware switch: to UltraSparc chips. Linux already runs on UltraSparc, so there wouldn't be any substantial change to the (mostly HTML-driven) software anyway.
Does the American education system teach Americans anything other than how to boost their already overactive self-esteems?
If you're speaking of the government indoctrination system, yes, there is something else it teaches extremely well. It indoctrinates its "products" in the mantra that government is the solution to all of "our" problems and that more government is good and that having less government will bring death, destruction and global warming. Of course, what can you expect of government-paid operatives whose very life depends on higher taxes and more control over the lives of American children.
...I don't think Harry Browne is presedential material...
Odd you would say that. Have you met Harry? I have. I've asked him some really tough questions during a 20 minute commute where I had his undivided attention. His answers were thoughtful, decisive, and articulate, all characteristics I'd want in a president. I don't see any of those characteristics in Gush, Bore or Ralph.
Have you read any of Harry's writings? I suggest you check out "The Great Libertarian Offer" before you make snap judgements about his presidentiality.
But the Libertarian Party will never achieve power in the US because many of their ideas are simply bad.
OK. Name me one "idea" of the Libertarian party that's "simply bad."
Reducing the amount and cost of intrusive government doesn't sound "bad" to me. That's one idea that even the Brits are starting to cotton to.
How about "abiding by the clear text of the Constitution." Is that "bad?"
How about "replacing the coercively-funded and counterproductive government charity with private charity." Is that "bad?"
Or "separation of school and state." How could that possibly be bad when we see students shooting one another in the classrooms of our government indoctrination centers.
Perhaps declaring peace in the insane "War on Drugs" looks "bad" to you. How could the insanity of $50Billion every year for locking up people just because they made the wrong choice of intoxicant be "good" and replacing that with peace be "bad?"
Oh well, I guess they got to you early in your government indoctrination center and now "bad" has become "good."

Not too many people will deny that big business is horribly irresponsible...
Interestingly put. Have you ever looked at the documents of Incorporation that form the basis for much of the corporatocracy in America today? First, let's note that The Corporation which charters these corporations is nothing less than the government of These United States. Second, let's note that what incorporation is all about is absolution of responsibility on the part of the human beings who wrap themselves in the teflon of incorporation. You can't sue Steve Jobs if your iMac flames out, since he's protected behind the Apple corporation.
So, don't blame corporations, blame The Corporation that establishes this irresponsibility in the first place.
Libertarians aren't anti-incorporation, they're just anti-irresponsible-corporation.
And, as far as the environment goes, would you rather have the folks that brought you Rocky Flats (the former nuclear bomb facility north of Denver) take care of your environment, or would you rather have the Nature Conservancy or the Audubon Society care for the environment. It's up to you. Oh, and don't forget how well the Forest Service looks after private property in Los Alamos.
