Yep, something along the lines "I'm paying the rapist, but because the murderer is worse". No, you should not be dealing with criminals in the first place.
[Message for the deeper-interpretation-impaired: this is just an exaggerated analogy to make the point clearer, I'm not saying anybody is a criminal.]
By religious archaeologists?:p But seriously, watch Zeitgeist or Religulous, and see some archaeological evidence that the foundation for the new testament was a copy and paste with some edits from Egyptians&co. some 3k years before.
At least if the people who call themselves Christians really followed what Jesus supposedly said, it would be really nice. But then you see super-fuckingly-rich Mitt Romney (I bet the camel will pass through the eye of the needle) and his company lobbying for laws to pay even less taxes, or Newt Gingrich condemning homosexuals for trying "to break the sanctity of marriage" (if there was a God of Irony, Newt killed it of laughing) or saying "[...] the enemies of America, kill them!", followed by a standing ovation of his Christian audience. Hypocrisy FTW!
You must read the holy book believing, and you will feel it is the word of god! The rapes? The commands to murder? Nah, that are only metaphors, when you read it you will fell the true message of love, and therefore it can only be "His" writings.
But how can you explain the awful advertisement? Stupidity? Yeah perhaps, but not likely, as it was completely unprecedented. For me the advertisement felt just like 'The Ring'. Or GM's refusal to sell the EV-1, even when people insisted on buying it? Or the counter advertisement to the 40000 interested in buying it? Or GM buying the rights of a better battery technology just to later sell it to fucking Texaco???? (this one doesn't make sense at all, if you are trying to see from the engineering PoV).
Or the change of focus from a proven technology (the EV-1 worked, and the people who leased them were pretty satisfied) to the hydrogen fuel cell that isn't even realistic probably for more ten to fifteen years?
If you (or anyone reading) have the patience to explain to me, I would really appreciate.
Watch the fucking documentary before saying shit please. Then you can contest the specific arguments. 'THEY', as you wrote, are explicitly exposed, with the reasoning for 'THEIR' actions.
I was about to write some of the arguments presented in the documentary, but what for? In your mind I'm a conspiracy theorist, and no evidence would prove otherwise.
I'm a proponent of EVs (and electric hybrids), but that documentary is so full of inaccuracies. I wish people would stop citing it.
Would you care to elaborate? Or give us some pointers to reliable sources? Perhaps I'm being naive, but the arguments the documentary presents are pretty convincing.
EVs died-off for the same reason passenger rail died-off in the early 1900s [...]
You meant in the US and other Big Oil dominated countries, right? Here in Europe passenger rail continues to go strong (to the best of my knowledge, myself being a customer in Germany, Italy and Portugal). Sadly for my mother nation Brazil, we don't have a good rail infrastructure not even for agricultural transportation (which comprises most of our GDP, I guess). For that we rely on big diesel trucks... I bet you can guess how things turned out to be that way right?
The state should not enforce faith, or lack thereof. I would go further and say people should leave others alone to chose their own belief systems. But the human nature is mostly social, driving the creation of groups, with all the bad side-effects.
I agree with GP that religion is a dangerous problem because it goes against inquiring reality. You can't really argue with a religious person, because they know The Truth. And if you have to argue they can get violent (human nature). People seem to think that the crusades, the inquisition, etc., were just movies, not reality. The way things are going, I think it is pretty probable it could happen again.
And that is without mentioning hypocresy. Like the good christian Newt Gingrinch citing someone I don't remember, something like "the enemies of America, kill them!", followed by a standing ovation of his fellow good christians. I thought "thou shall not kill" was one of the commandments, wasn't it? Ah, I see, the word of 'God' is to be followed when you so desire.
You remember myself some 6 or 7 years ago. Back then I coded mostly in C++ and Lua, and I wholeheartedly hated Python. I have a friend (way more intelligent than I am) that told me something like "Python is the best language ever", but I couldn't understand how he liked it.
Then I was forced to make some extensions to Blender in Python. What started as a frustrating (because of my prejudice) experience quickly (+- one week) turned to amazement about how easy it was to code the things I wanted to do. And after a little while coding mostly Python, I understood the usefulness of having semantic indentation. Now it is my language of choice for 99% of things I have to do.
Except last year, that I had to code some things in Perl. After one month dealing with it, I hate it even more, and I guess it made my IQ drop some 20 points. Its syntax is fucking ugly, and the whole thing is a big hack... it just feels wrong.
JavaScript also feels hackish, but it is not ugly. Same level as C and PHP I guess (although my complaint with PHP is the buggy libraries). I still enjoy C++ very much, only don't used it much these days.
This friend I mentioned earlier also loves Haskell, so from time to time I take a look at it, but it seems I'm just not ready yet.:)
My point was that you didn't have to say it looked like crap. It's like saying "This Ferrari looks like crap. Google for Dodge Viper". It is a great technology, it only has its drawbacks. I apologize for insulting you.
Dear troll, you are entitled to your opinion. As I have one XO, I know how great these screens are (it is my opinion). It is also my opinion that you could have said 'X is much better than Y', instead of 'X is crap'. Therefore, my final opinion is (with all due respect) that you are a cunt and you should go fuck yourself.
No, I really don't. But I can't help, I'm forced to. You know, one of the best ways to learn something is by example, and the examples the media exposes are like: - a guy throwing a molotov on a mosque - people holding banners "god hates you, you are going to hell" for the soldiers returning from Iraq - same thing, but "god hates fags" (Foo Fighters performed exclusively for one of these loonies groups, oh how I wanted to be there) - a guy blowing up around 100 people in Norway - a nation, "bound under god", which defends the use of torture
And all the people behind that have read the bible and, supposedly, "God have touched their souls".
If god existed and had any authority, the world would not be the chaos it had always been. And don't give me the "mysterious ways" crap.
The fact that this thread starts with the comment "They could preach slavery, rape, murder, hating on gays/women/divorcees. Oh wait, that would probably let them justify having a state on top of a religion ^^" and nobody has stood up to denounce that hatred itself is indicative of the issue.
No, it is indicative that people know what is written in the Christian Bible (and other religious books based on those ancient scriptures). Do we need to repeat ourselves and explicitly point the references for those atrocious acts in that book?

Done, now give me my gazillion dollars please.
I did something, I signed this petition. I hope it helps.

And when you talk about law you have to remember whose interests are involved: Who Killed the Electric Car?.
Everybody should watch this documentary, and be revolted with those in command.
Yes, it can. That's what it just did.
The state should not enforce faith, or lack thereof. I would go further and say people should leave others alone to chose their own belief systems. But the human nature is mostly social, driving the creation of groups, with all the bad side-effects.

Religion is mass control.
It is correct, imagine all the orgies that will take place once they announce the Earth will be destructed...
Who Killed the Electric Car?
Please, please, please watch "Who killed the electric car?"!

As long as people are willing to trade freedom for illusion of security, DHS and its ilk will prosper.
There, FTFY.
You forgot to say Thomas Edison copied "Voyage Dans La Lune" and distributed it in the US without giving any penny to its author, George Melies.
There's nothing like a good explication to completely ruin what was already a bad joke! Thank you! :)
What calories? Pizza is a vegetable!
I only hope they are not here to "serve and protect" [and pepperspray] us.
You want to know how to be a Christian?
No, I really don't. But I can't help, I'm forced to. You know, one of the best ways to learn something is by example, and the examples the media exposes are like:

As Christians would like to put it, people have Free Will that must be restricted, otherwise they'd do things Christians don't like them to do.
There, FTFY.
Substitute Christians for Muslins, Hindus, etc., and it still works.
Congrats! :)
