I hate to advocate violence here, but after reading this article I sure would like to kick someone in the balls, bust a windshield and key the MOFO's car.
Why not call your product "software name 2009" You can use that naming convention for a long time until your product reaches maturity. Don't make available anywhere the version number and put out a press release talking about how long the company has been in business and how much expertise they have in the area that this software is designed for.
I personally have not purchased a physical CD in about 8 years. I dont even listen to the radio anymore. I prefer to listen to my engine and just relax. I can see how the CD died though. Why would you want to carry around a big honking portable CD player and a fragile CD with only about 12 tracks when you could carry an mp3 player with hundreds of tracks?
Why should we coddle women into any field. If any women have an interest in CS, all they have to do is go to school learn the skills and the HR people WILL hire them. As far as self esteem and fear of competition: thats survival of the fittest. Throw some elbows and take what rightfully yours. Dont expect any hugs. If that not your style then maybe you should look into becoming a machinist, welder, landscaper, pipe fitter or auto

Im not planning to run Vista on my box unless I find that I have to in order to do the things I want to with my PC. I refuse to purchase DRM riddled products that prevent me from using the media I legitimately purchased, the way that I want to. Im not interested in backroom deals that determine that if I buy song X at store A I can only play it on player 123. Sorry Microshaft and Itunes until you guys start representing me Im voting with my dollarsIm siding with the independent party.
I think the entire US foreign policy is run by the defense department. The plan, p!55 off one nation at a time until we can justify bombing them into oblivion and then making it the 60th state etc...in the union. If you're currently a member of the armed forces the worst thing that could happen is "world is peace." These guys would then have to go out and find real jobs. So yeah arresting people on connecting flights that pass through U.S airspace or land on U.S. soil is just one way to irritate people and make enemies.
