Seems like a nice PDA, I already have a Vx, but this looks just as sweet.
IMO the only thing this is missing is MP3 playback. I already have a cell phone, now all I need is to be able to listen to my music when I am bored.
If it can record music I would think it could playback stuff... Any ideas on that?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't using.13 micron process and copper technology make it easier to overclock this new P3?.13 is sure to run cooler too, right?
The Compaq Prosignia 190 (now discontinued) has long battery life, by featuring three batteries in its case. Besides the built-in battery, two extra batteries (a $179 12-cell and $129 8-cell) can fit into the Prosignia's modular CD-ROM drive and floppy drive bays. The trio of power packs runs for up to 9 hours, says Compaq.

If thats how Compaq wants battery life, with no CD and floppy and a lot of weight, they can keep it.
My beef with the no fan issue is that lots of cooling is really good for the CPU. Jeez, who would think that I would actually want my processor to last longer and perform better. I also feel that those attracted to the Imac will be less likely to change to another computer quickly as they are not "power users," so active cooling might be good. I'm also not the first to note that the article avoids the fact that video cards need fans.
tweakfiles has a lot of utilities for messing with your computer. My friend runs a dual Celeron BP6 system and CPUidle does wonders for lowering the temperature of the chips. Check under Processor for things like Rain and Cpuidle to get that extra oomph of performance.
I've noticed a large european/american slant on these comments. No one is really talking about the developing world. In a lot of places there is no stability to support electricity or phone networks. How is the internet going to survive there? I am sure wireless technology helps bypass problems of a nonexistent infrastructure, but a "technological gap" seems quite apparent. This is acerbated by the brain drain from developing nations to Europe and America.
The internet is largely english based too. Although that is changing, it still means that the well-educated or upper classes of other nations will be the primary contacts we have with other peoples online. Neither group really represents a population well. What we would really want are all people in a country to have access to information, but that won't be forthcoming quickly. Those things limit the internet from totally changing everyone's lives, but it surely is and will be a revolution in many places.
Despite the fact that astronomers have proof of many extrasolar planets, the public hasn't become fascinated with them at all. I thinks its just great that/. is paying attention to this story, but how much will the other press and people? In my opinion, until we can get some great visuals of these planets, projects to study this branch of science will remain underfunded. Thats a bad thing. I know that these planets are pretty far from us, and pictures of them might be hard to do, but something needs to help re-excite the public on space. Hubble was launched in 1990, and has an estimated 15 year life span, what will be around after it. Can the new X-Ray telescope do that function? We need better support for our astronomers. I'm no expert on the area, but more space telescopes could help. I don't see the great usefulness of our impending International Space Station. Maybe money spent on it could be better spent on science elsewhere more effectively. What can we do, because I really don't know.
I didn't think of the implication to the quality of news coming from cnn. I wouldn't think it would decrease the quality of the cable channel, but the website (which I like and is my homepage) could decrease, which would be a real downer. Its not the greatest site but it gives good concise info when I need it. Best luck to you and our friends Quentelin.
My fear, more than anything is of huge transnational companies described in Sci-Fi, with no loyalty to the botom line, buying nations with spare money lying around. It may be a paranoid fear, but how much does a normal corporation care about its customers. We all know how AOL consistently dumbs down material for its consumer, that can't be a good sign for the future. Maybe I'm scared b/c I need to make a decision if I will be joining that competitive world (which is attractive because of the money and the challenge) or if continured education is my path.

Say, weren't there characters in Dune with metallic eyes who were shunned? Another example of Sci-Fi foreshadowing reality.
