What would that registry setting be? I am really interested in this. I have 1.5GB of RAM and rarely use more then 1GB of physical RAM. Windows is still swapping too much. I do not want to disable the pagefile completely however, just make it swap less when free RAM is still available.
Do we really care about all this? If there is an online magazine that wastes time with these childish fights and childish actions, I am only happy they made it easy for me, easy to judge that anything these guys write or say is not worth reading or listening to.
There is a large amount of sites on the internet that do have integrity and where the persons involved have enough maturity to write about Linux, about open source and about technology without bothering with sys-con like stupidity.
It is a well known fact that scientists often try to make it into the mainstream media, just so they can get funding.
If this team would tell the true story, nobody would even bother donating money, so they come up with a more spicy story! This is how it has been done in the past and it has eventually given us some nice inventions, technologies or breakthroughs.
So whenever you read a story that tells you that a scientists claims to have (almost) achieved something revolutionary, translate that into "I am merely halfway and I need funding.".
People who are running a pirated version of Windows or any other software title took full responsability when they started to do so.
Not only Microsoft but also RedHat and SuSE disallow updating your installation using their servers (cfr. RedHat Network and Yast Online Update) when you don't have a legal installation. Making, testing and publishing patches does cost money.
If someone has a pirated version of Windows and is therefore unable to update his system resulting in a system that is polluting the Internet with worms, virusses and other harmful software, he or she is fully responsible.
Microsoft may find that the total negative impact of not having these people update their systems is greater then the positive effect (people removing their pirated versions or buying a license). That could influence a decision to offer critical updates to any Windows versions with no questions asked.
Two days ago I paid my bill, 250 EUR. Given that I live alone, with almost no electrical devices turned on, that is even considered a low bill here in Belgium.
Average families with two children can expect 300 EUR to 500 EUR bill each year.
If you're NT is constantly die-ing then you probably have a misconfigured item somewhere in your system.
Good configured NT systems are as stable as Unix machines.
Of course, it is MS's own mistake to have so much 'bad' sysadmin's out there. Unix has thousands of capable sysadmin's, they learned the trade in ten years or more of experience. NT admins however often just follow a course, take an NT certified whatever exam and hup, they are promoted to full blown NT sysadmins.
If you compare NT to unix, don't forget to compare their sysadmins as well.
But.. NT is harder to administrate then Unix, so it is quite natural to have less good NT admins then Unix admins

Absolutely. I can't agree more. There is an article that goes slightly deeper into this subject:

Actually, from Konqueror there are no problems. It is just Firefox that doesn't play nicely anymore with the main page.

Does it support the euro ? :)

Have you tried MySQL ? or Postgresql ? They both match the criteria of mid-sized SQL database backend.
You should also have a look at Apache/PHP.
I also regurarly see postings on Freshmeat of a tool to translate ASP scripts to PHP. The tool is called ASP2PHP
The uptime of apache and apache/php can be considered a non-issue. They are at least as stable as IIS/ASP and probably even more stable and faster.
