Actually, I, as a Canadian, [and I do not claim to represent views of people other than myself] favour legitimate taxes (i.e. income, sales, property, etc., as long as the money is used wproperly, whilst acknowledging that there will always be some waste. However, ridiculous and ineffective taxes, such as this one, which does not differentiate between media used for music & media used for other things (which would, by the way, be very hard to enforce), are not acceptable.
Yeah! Let's add even more cost to music! I'm sure our totally loyal customers won't care! I mean, our sales haven't been decreasing at all lately, so this couldn't add to any problems we might have!!
Because perhaps the person knows that they don't know what they're doing, and doesn't want to waste lots of money buying components that they have a high probability of not installing properly/frying/[be creative]. Also, just because they buy the book doesn't necessarily mean they will be following the instructions directly... the same way artists look at other works for inspiration.
As a Canadian, I think it is important to remember that although countries can sometimes be described as "generally left-wing" and "generally right-wing", etc., one should be careful to remember that these are generalizations; for example, in the case of Canada, the political views of 32 808 000 people* cannot, and should not, be summed up in a few sentences for the use of personal views; rather, these sorts of generalizations should be used for, say, comparing the general political moods of different countries, based on polls, electoral data, etc. For Example, I think most of us would agree with the statement "The Netherlands is generally more liberal than Iran", but it is extremely important to remember that there are individuals in each area who may or may not have slightly, or vastly, different political views. Thus, just because someone is a Canadian does not mean they hold any particular political views, and so there is no reason to presume that they might, or might not, in your words, "accrue admiration for that man".

I guess this is further evidence that there are two things one cannot escape - death and taxes.
Yeah, but Bush doesn't vote....[ note: I prefer the Liberals over the Canadian Alliance....
I never said I agreed with it, but I do agree with the idea of not messing up the components. I wouldn't have paid for it.
