  1. If you've modified your /etc/rc file.. on Mac OS X 10.3.3 Update Released · · Score: 3, Informative

.. you'll have to update it again. Just in case any here might have hacked it as I have; ie: switch where dynamic_pager points to for swap creation (have a separate UFS non-journaled partition). It appears it's been overwritten again, as can happen with the system updates (not whining, just fyi'ing).

Dude, check your audience; I understand your frustration, but I doubt you'll get too much sympathy from us. We only hates Microsoft, remember?

  3. Open auditability on Gabriel and Eno Start Digital Music Artist Union · · Score: 5, Interesting

All of those "hidden" promoting/distributing/in-my-pocket costs that have long been a part of the music model need to be exposed. It's the only way anyone is going to get a handle on how much money is really being spent and/or given to the artists. Nice in principle but hell to actually implement - existing status quo has too much money (or lawyers) behind it to sit idly by and watch their outdated business model die.

  4. Re:use the process on Sharing IT Problems with Executives? · · Score: 1

I agree wholeheartedly with the parent. The problem that I'm experiencing is that there is a complete lack of trust from the top level to ours. We identify problems that need to be resolved, they are passed up to the top where nothing happens. After three years of this, we are now being viewed as "whiny", and "nothing will satisfy us". With morale at an all time low, our new strategy is to say "we have no problems - nosirree! All's good here!" - there's no point in raising issues if the only consequence is to shoot the messenger and assume we're idiots. I wonder what others have done in these circumstances.. This must have been on askslashdot at some point...

Actually, it's partially (though minimally) affected - the status bar for the hovered-over links only show "www.microsoft.com". Mind you - if you click on any of them, you see the whole thing in the address bar. Not that this will really affect the vast majority of Mac OS X users anyhow, who probably use Safari by now.

  6. Re:Government Funded Internet Access? on National Broadband Access · · Score: 1

Not that this has anything to do with high-speed internet access, but as a Canadian I can inform you that my personal experience with our health care system has been extremely good. A possibility of said article might be to dissuade future direction of American health care policy; not accuracy on the current situation.

Now if we can also ban crapplets and banners with that network...
