  1. Re:wrong issue on GM Cornered Into Defending the Volt · · Score: 1

Actually the market would take care of the issue if the government wasn't interfering with it. However, the market is not allowed to deal with the issue, because it is continually constrained by...drum roll please....government regulation.

If the government wasn't dictating how cars should be made with CAFE standards, Saftey standards, union regulations, etc... then the market would be free to invest in the best technologies to create the most efficient cars. In fact, the auto makers would be forced to do so, because they would have to compete with the companies that were using the best technologies and manufacturing techniques.

The real issue is that the market doesn't want what you, and all your socialist treehugger friends are trying to force down their throats. Here's economic principle #1: When free of govt. regulation, companies produce the goods and services people want. Americans want big powerful cars. If oil prices go up, then people will want more efficient cars, or cars running on alternative fuels. If you attempt to force people into buying what they don't want, which is our current state, then the market stagnates. The government is the problem, not the solution.

Please study some economics, and try to give some good arguments to back up your reasoning instead of posting unfounded, erroneous economic theories which have repeatedly been proven false throughout the world.

    BWAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!

So, I guess you like slowing your system down to a crawl with antivirus software just so you can use Windows to browse the Internet.

The Internet itself is no different in Linux that in Windows, and I personally find Linux to be far more usable when browsing the Internet than Windows.

Turn your cracker jack geek card in at the door. Epic Fail.

ISP logs cannot be relied upon unless a correlation can be made to a specific computer. There are too many plausible explanations that could result in certain sites showing up in IP logs tied to a person's IP(wireless router hacked, virus, running a TOR node, etc...). Therefor, in order to ensure that the logs were made by person X the authorities would have to tie the logs to a specific system. This means that it is likely that IE8 will keep the records on the specific system and will only reveal how to access those logs to the authorities.

Of course this will be broken/discovered soon after IE8 is released, so there's probably not much to worry about.

Society has nothing to do with defining morality. Society defines values, and laws which might be an indication of the morality of the law makers and the people they govern, but actually do not define morality.

Morality is absolute. People who deny this are generally trying to justify the amoral way in which they live their lives. There are some pretty darn good reasons why all the laws you mentioned above were in place in their respective cultures. Most of it having to do with disease prevention, and maintaining an orderly society. I would argue that none of the laws you mentioned really have anything to do with morality.

Living without morals may seem like a great idea, but once you been stolen from and killed by the guy who doesn't care, you might start to appreciate a society with morals.

Go live how you want. Unfortunately the "moralists" out there are going to be proven right probably sooner than later.

Anyhow, I fail to see how this will save my children. I'd much rather have a pedophile watch pictures anonymously and otherwise lead a normal life than block him off from his pr0n until he gets frustrated enough to go for the real thing.

This statement is idiotic. Where do you think the pictures he's looking at come from? Someone else is exploiting real children to create these pictures, and you don't have a problem with that?

The whole problem with pr0n in general is that the human psyche is programmed to continually seek out new stimulation. Eventually the pedophile will need to fuel for the fire. He's either going to go find more pr0n or going to go create it himself.

I don't necessarily agree with this bill, but I darn sure don't believe in non-intervention. If you come across it and don't report it, your are worse than the ones committing the acts.

There's an old saying that you reap what you sow. The MPAA is now reaping, in droves, what they sown for the past 20 years.

When they treat their customers like criminals; when they automatically assume their customers will pirate content, then why in the world are they shocked when people start to do that very thing.

The MPAA could mitigate most of the "illegal downloading" problem by treating their customers fairly, and allowing fair use on copyrighted material. This would require them to give up their greedy, money grubbing attitude, but it would certainly make the world a better place.
