Does it now? I just launched IE to check it (easier than logging out of everything in Firefox) and the text above the login box said "Sign in to Gmail with your Google Account". Well you didn't probe far enough. If you try to log in with a Google account it will not work. What I'm trying to figure out why this article was even posted, as if it's some kind of new news...GMail has been offering invitation codes via mobile phone for quite some time now.
The whole "PCs are only good for boring office type work" angle might have actually been believable back in the mid to late 80's when that is exactly how the "IBM Compatible" PCs were already widely perceived by the general public. But now anybody with an IQ greater than that of a chimp knows better. I'm not particularly for or against Mac but at the very least on this point they are about 20 years too late for this to be a usable marketing angle.
Checking an anti-spam database for your IP won't tell you anything. Many major ISPs submit all of their non business customer IP ranges to those lists.
