FPS, to me, seemed to have struck many of the threads that weave throughout Gibson's books. The idea of software becoming more then what it was written, technology rebeling, emergence of AI in unexpected ways, etc...
So when I watched X-files, I looked beyond much of the cheezy visuals (and some bad dialog... oh, let's not forget the unexplained "kill room":)
The only real problem I had was the codechick striking "back as a woman". I just plain didn't understand what she ment by that... if it was about "No one finds me sexy so I need to role-play to simulate a healthy selfimage", why couldn't they just say that?

Um... I'm not completely sure, but I think it was just a interesting/weird way of saying that "Hey! Even with Napster CD sales are doing just fine! Screw you RIAA!"
But I could be wrong...

Description from (http://www.quetzal.com/conlang/intern.html):
A United Nations University project to create an interlanguage for use on the internet; the idea being that you'd use special tools to create a document in this language and it would be automatically translated into any of the UN member languages on demand. They plan to make this feasible by restricting the grammar and vocabulary of the interlanguage, and have translation be only one-way, from the interlanguage to national languages. The interlanguage's vocabulary will be English words, with probably some type of grammatical markup added -- not intended for people to read or use directly. [Institute of Advanced Studies, United Nations University]
Seems like a possible answer for making programs more "international" if an interperter could be incorporated directly.
For those of you smarter then I (which means just about all of you..), check out http://www.unl.ias.unu.edu for more information.

I could rewrite parts of books to be more technical, but if the book is going for a more laid back look, well.....
This is interesting... is there a document format that would allow a user to scale the amount of information?
Someone mentioned the number of Perl scripts used to make hit counters when 1 or 2 would suffice. Will we face "umb-teen billion" (a technical term) different help documents all of which are missing the information you're looking for?
As a complete newbie to Linux, the thought of that scares me.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't really have a grasp on this subject, but would it be possible to make it so that the client had to download the server's version of the game code?
I'll try to make this as straight forward as possible...
1) Clients need to dl game code each time they connect. 2) Servers need to compile their own binary, which results in adding a random password to some varible. 3)Server checks for the correct password in the binary.
I have no idea how large the game code would be, so if it's of fair size this would be impractical.
I'm sure there are other problems associated with this, but I figure that I might as well put this "out there"... maybe someone could fill in the holes and make this work. (If it's not horribly flawed to begin with...)

I've always used ClickTV and the great thing is that it supports Canada too!!!
(Of course, I probably wouldn't use ClickTV if it didn't have Canadian listings to begin with...)

I'm fairly ignorant on the topic, but would intergration of OpenAL(www.openal.com) be a solution to this?

I've heard this a lot, "Why does it have to be Windows like?". But nobody seems to have had any suggestions!
Is there anyone out there that has a real idea of what should be done??

PS - It is the only Microsoft product I have any appreciation for, and it took until version 5.
Conversely, it only took Netscape 4 versions for people to hate it...
