From what I know of Linux and Unix in general, the basic motto is a program should do one thing and do it well.
From what I hear of Mozilla, they keep adding new features, ones that are questionable for a web browser. (I've heard people joking about making a Office Suite out of Moz...)
What I'd like to know is if there is anywhere these two methods meet? Does the current development of Moz mesh with the general Unix philosophy(sp?)? Or has the development of Moz gone horribly wrong?
True, but wouldn't that only work for a computer that was close to the stereo???
If you could get rid of the hard drives, and hook it up over network, you wouldn't have to duplicate mp3's to it, or need to fiddle with the computer when you didn't want to. (And let's face it, only a real geek, wants to play with the computer during a party... unless of course it's that kinda of party.;) You would need to leave the PC on, but most early adopters probably wouldn't mind that too much. (And it would give me a better reason then SETI to leave my box on.:)
If it's ever going to work it has be setup so that the more you use something the less per charge it is....
Imagine having to pay.5 cents each time you refreshed Slashdot??? It'd still cost more then anyone would want to pay... now if it went down to.005 the more you clicked, not so many people would object...
(BTW, how much do you think it costs for each loading of slashdot.org?)
Why should you put either first? On a scale of one to ten you could set them both at ten, "Let me know right away!".
And who would spend a day at this??? The idea of these systems is to evolve, so unless you specificly say "This is my wife/boss, let me know right away." the different prioity values should be evaluated on the fly in responce to your actions. In a perfect world you wouldn't even need to specify that your Wife/Boss get highest priority and the system would figure that out by itself, but this isn't a perfect world.
Instead of reading the artical and learning that you can set priorities for different people you go off and spout some "Microsoft is bad, Microsoft can't do anything right, Why is Microsoft always wrong?" chant to make yourself seem cool.
And Big Surprise!, you even got a moderator to agree with you.

Oh, and the Dredge were the most visually cool enemies I've ever seen in a cartoon for a long time. Very creative animation style used on them, gave them a very out-of-reality impression.
Ever see the CGI show Shadow Raiders? Now THAT has(had?) cool enemies. While I liked the movie, I found the Drej to be poor imitations.:-/
Everything I see is always geared towards the business side of PIM's, does anyone have anything for everyday life?
I'm looking forward to the day when I can have software which can help me organize my everyday life. Like separate my multiple accounts (I don't want just a "inbox"), a schedule which can incorporate thigns like my favorite T.V. shows even if they overlap, realise that someone's spouse could ALSO be in my contact list, be able to automate games of Quake under an "appointment", etc...
I'm sure there are many things you could use in a "Daily Life PIM", but is anyone working on it?
I know this is a joke, but I remember someone saying something like this before and being very serious.
If Win9X is open sourced, there will be much more people looking for a way to bring down the "OS" then people looking to patch the problems. You'd have to wait six months or more before it'd be safe enough to put your Win9X box online again.
Some of you (most of you:) probably don't think of this as a bad thing, but right here and now MS-Win is a very important part of most people's interaction with the 'Net(TM).
Couldn't some software be made for a Palm Computer to handel this? Seems like a good idea, you could cut down on the amount of hardware you'd need on a trip....
North American gamers won't go for the daily charge.... but if they were to tie it in to their ISP, Sega.Com, it'd be a pretty good incentive to join up...
This is IMO, why the french language is not long for this world. Quebec (and I believe to some degree France itself) creates laws to keep the french language "pure". This is what I think is the fastest way to kill a language or a culture.

Let's keep this on the topic of ebooks, if Time Warner were to publish their own version it'll still have the "Can you spare a buck for little 'ol Stevie King?" on it. So basicly Time Warner would be helping King out.
Hell, TW's size could help it still make a profit. While you're looking for King's newest book on their servers (which will most likely be faster then King's own) the they can be throwing banner ads at you. And making money. Think of TuCows, they provide free software downloads and get paided by ads. TW could do the same with eBooks. Wiwi -- "I trust in my abilities, but I want more then they offer"

What about heading the other way? Convince Netpliance to use a Linux varient that everyone can use.
SlashDot users keep taking about Linux going mainstream, how much more mainstream can you get then a device for people who wouldn't normally use a computer?

Ok.... let me get this straight....
:)
They've made a wrist watch that has more power then my Mom's computer?
I love technology!!!!
How soon can I get one plugged into my brain running off my body's checmical engery?
Oh... if I could only retake my math exams!!!

It seems really cool... but surely there are better uses then a car!
Hell, with a 200MMX, I could use one that fit's in a drive bay! (Tho' if I could pay for one, I could pay for a better processor....)
Or how about a stereo??? How many mp3 devices are there for a stereo setup?
